Raider Update
November 20, 2022
Message from the Superintendent
Good afternoon Raider Families,
It's clear that winter has arrived. That means we are in the season for potential "snow days" or asynchronous e-learning days. Each of our schools has a plan in place, should we need it. However, the first time the weather gets to the point where we need to cancel "in-person" school, we will hold a traditional "snow day." Any additional inclement weather days will be asynchronous e-learning days. We will do our best to provide as much notice as possible and plans for each building posted here. Now is the time to establish plans for days that students will not be in school due to weather. Please take a look at your building's e-learning plan below.

Student Illnesses
We have seen an increase in the number of people sick lately with diseases like Influenza, RSV, Strep, and Covid-19. The Hastings Middle School has reached the threshold needed to report an outbreak to the Minnesota Department of Health. The threshold is 5% of the students being absent from school due to flu-like illness on a given day, and in Elementary Schools, three or more students in a given classroom are ill on the same day from flu-like illness.
If your child is ill, please keep them home from school and school-based activities. People who are ill spread the disease to others! The Center for Disease Control recommends that people who are sick stay home for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. The fever should be gone WITHOUT the use of fever-reducing medicine. A person with Covid follows the CDC Covid guidelines.
If your child is absent from school, please call the attendance secretary and let them know the reason for your child’s illness. If your child has a fever (at least 100 degrees F) and a cough or sore throat, please specify this when calling.
Here are ways to avoid getting sick:
- Avoid close contact with sick people
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze. Throw the tissue away after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water. If helpful, here is a Handwashing VIDEO for kids. If soap and water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Germs spread this way.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs.
Thanks for your help keeping our students healthy and learning!
