Year 9 – Revision Techniques

The assemblies this week have been welcoming the students back into school after the Easter holiday.
ATTENDANCE
We are delighted that over that last half term nearly 3 quarters of students had an attendance of more than 95% and that 540 students were absent for less than 1 day. Our overall attendance since September is 92%.
We recognise that occasionaly students may be too ill to attend school. We are grateful that the vast majority of parents report the absence by telephoning or emailing the school before 8am. Being notified by 8am means that we can quickly identify any students who are unexpectedly absent at the start of the day. This helps us to ensure that all of our students are safe. Where absences are reported after 8am the message may not be picked up in time meaning that the school may still contact you to confirm the reason for absence.
Absences can either be reported by telephoning 01245 440232 or emailing attendance@chelmer.essex.sch.uk
JACK PETCHEY'S "SPEAK OUT" CHALLENGE
As you may be aware, each year our school participates in the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge - up to 30 Year 10 students spend a day learning public speaking skills in a workshop with an expert from the Jack Petchey Foundation.
At the end of that day, the strongest speakers are selected to participate in an Assembly Final. This year the finalists were:
- Lydia Perry - Suffragettes
- James Savvides - Mental health
- Georgia Hampton - End animal cruelty
- Thomas Arnott - The meaning of life
- Arissa - Why I wear a hijab
They each did a wonderful speech for Year 8 as part of their celebration assembly; all staff present were invited to cast their votes for the best speaker.
The winner of the Assembly Final was Arissa; she went on to represent the school at the Essex regional finals in Basildon on Tuesday. She delivered a powerful speech with one clear message: if you believe in something, don’t let others corrupt it.
Congratulations to Arissa for representing CVHS brilliantly. Here she is, pictured with the Mayor of Basildon after receiving her certificate.
ART WORK OF THE WEEK
