Farewell Reception for Tasha Jackson
BES will greatly miss Tasha. It is not an overstatement to say that our school will not be the same without her. Her grace, humour, and wisdom ... ensured the school was able to function efficiently. However, she is preparing her successor, Ramona Blair very well. Please stop by the office and give her a warm welcome.

Sign Out/Sign In
Each time you leave the building, you must SIGN OUT/IN in the office (no exceptions...includes going to admin or another school). Unless you have text/talked to Ms. Adelowo or I, you should not be leaving during your prep period. That time is to be used for collaboration with your peers and planning for your lessons. If there is something that you must leave to do, you must talk to us first. This is a safety issue. If we go in to a lockdown or have any other emergency, I have to know where everyone is at and not spend time looking for someone who isn't in the building.
Meaningful Valentines to Our Local Nursing Homes
Sometimes, the meaning of Valentine’s Day can get lost in the classroom; children often exchange the same manufactured cards year after year. Instead, we would like for our students at BES to give love and caring to those who need it most. In addition to exchanging valentines with one another, we would like for the students to participate in a kindness project by sending homemade valentines to our local nursing homes. It’s a memorable and unique way to show love to our community, and the kids will feel good about what they’ve accomplished.
Please have your class make valentines during their recess time tomorrow and Tuesday to support our kindness project. The valentines should be completed by the end of the day on Tuesday, February 12, 2019. You can turn them in to Ms. Adelowo or Mrs. Miller. They will deliver the valentines to local nursing homes on Wednesday, February 13, 2019.
DUTY/SUPERVISION
During morning arrival, lets all model the behavior we would like to see in the students. We should be attentive during this time and not visiting with other staff. Duty staff should be placed where students can be supervised. During this time, students should sit quietly regardless of what they are working on. Previously the expectation has been to read a book or study multiplication facts, but some staff members have asked if students could sit quietly even if they are not reading or studying math facts. Sitting quietly may be added as an option during this time.
SUBSTITUTES
An administrator or secretary must be notified if a substitute is needed. Requests must be made as early as possible to ensure the availability of a substitute. In the event of an emergency and you must call in to request a sub, you can reach Mrs. Walker at (870) 532-7866 (cell). If there is no answer, please leave a message or send a text.
You should have at least 3 days of sub plans in your emergency sub binder that can be used on days that you do not know that you are going to be absent. Sub plans need to be placed in an area that is easy for the substitute to find. In your sub folder, you must have your daily schedule that includes times to change classes, special class times, lunch, activity, dismissal times, scheduled bathroom breaks and the transportation list that shows how your students get home. You must also have a copy of your current class roster with instructions on how to record attendance for your class. You must have any instructional material already copied so the substitute has everything they need for the day. You should have a buddy teacher that will cover your duty when you are out. Please make arrangements so that your duty is covered and return the favor for someone else! We all have emergencies at some point, so we want to make sure our students are appropriately supervised at all times.
