Updates to Our Mitigation Plans
This week, the CDC elevated its assessment of the level of pandemic severity in Pima County from "substantial" to "high" rates of transmission. To keep our school safe, we are making the following changes on campus and we've updated the CFSD Mitigation Strategies. These new practices will take effect immediately.
In the case of Hester v Phoenix Union High School District, a Maricopa County Superior Court judge ruled on Monday that the Arizona law that prohibits school districts from mandating face coverings is not yet in effect. As a result, school districts can legally require masks.
Therefore, effective Tuesday, August 17, we are requiring universal indoor masking by all students, staff, teachers, and visitors/volunteers on all CFSD campuses, regardless of vaccination status. Outdoors, masks will continue to be optional.
- No visitors will be allowed on campus.
- Limited volunteers are permitted on campus per the school's request. Volunteers are required to wear masks when indoors.
- Ventana Vista will not be having indoor school events on campus or large gatherings of students indoors.
- Ventana Vista have moved the student desks and do not have students facing one another until the rate of transmission significantly decreases.

Snacks in K-2
Kindergarten students will eat snack outside their classroom in order to not have kids with masks off indoors.
1st grade students will have a 5 minute mid-morning snack outside since they don't eat lunch until 12:15pm.
2nd grade students will have a 5 minute mid-afternoon snack outside since they eat lunch early at 11:15am.
Please send a very small healthy snack that is packed separately from your child's lunch box if you want them to eat a snack.
It is not required to send a snack. If you prefer that your child not snack, do not send one. The lunch schedule takes time to adjust to for all children, but their bodies do adjust.
Grades 3-5 will continue NOT to have a snack.
Encourage your children to eat a hearty breakfast and to focus on eating during their lunch time.
Family Teacher Teams: Would you like to help improve your student's success at school?
Has pandemic education left you wanting more for your student? Do you want to be more involved in the learning process for your child?
At Ventana Vista, we believe that when staff and parents work together, children can maximize their learning and achieve greater success. For this reason, we have initiated Family Teacher Teams (FTTs) this year. FTTs allow teachers to share grade-level and individual student data and also provide tools that your family can use at home to help your student grow.
Your child's teacher will host a parent-teacher conference centered around the idea of Family Teacher Teams via Zoom. Please join us to learn new tools and strategies that your family can use to help your child learn and grow! Stay tuned for details about our first meeting in mid-September.
If you have questions about Family Teacher Teams, please contact Allison Bacalia, abacalia@cfsd16.org.

Look at that fabulous shade!
Thanks to you, the FFO was able to purchase two umbrellas with stands for Joe and Ms. Anna, so they can greet each car in the pick-up line without frying in the sun.
