A Byte of Robotics Event
Saturday, Nov 5th, 11am - 2pm
West Bloomfield Middle School 6000 Orchard Lake Rd, West Bloomfield Township, MI 48322 Fee: Donations for OC Foster Closet requested West Bloomfield Robotics Community Engagement and Community Service Project - to support Oakland County Foster Closet, and to share our robotics experiences with the community.
A Byte of Robotics is an event that our West Bloomfield Robotics students will be hosting as an introduction to robotics. Instead of an entry fee, we will take donations that will benefit the Oakland County Foster Closet.
Within this event, we will be showing a few of the main things we do in robotics. This includes an overview of FIRST LEGO League (K-5) and FIRST Tech Challenge (6-8), along with hands-on activities such as coding an EV3 LEGO robot, and a LEGO free build.
Donation items requested (please note – all items must be New/Unopened to be accepted): Baby Shampoo Baby Lotion Toys (we hear that they could really use new LEGOs) Socks - toddlers Box cake mix Frosting
The Oakland County Foster Closet offers support services, supplies, and aid to children in the foster care system and to those in crisis situations. It is our mission to foster hope, love, and community one child at a time! https://www.ocfostercloset.org/
Donations will also be accepted leading up to the event. They can be dropped off in our collection box in WBMS, or contact us and we’ll make arrangements to pick them up from you. Contact wbanchorbots@gmail.com or wbrobotics2020@gmail.com for further information

It's a great way to show off your math skills and to also improve them at the same time! There are five board games that you will learn before you head to the tournament and play against students all across Michigan and Ohio!! This club is fun and competitive!

Students calling and emailing home
Of course if a student wants to talk to a parent directly we always facilitate that request.
Sometimes we allow students to use their cell phones to call or text as well from the main office.
We acknowledge that cell phone signals are not as strong especially in the back of the building and calls can be dropped. Parents are welcome to call the main office and we can call your student to the landline to speak with you. Of course, we appreciate that this would be emergency calls only during the school day as we do not like to interrupt instruction for messages.
In the past, the feature where students can email outside domains has been on and off. Currently, due to heightened online security the feature is off for many domains so you may not get emails from your student if the student is using the WB student email address. We have enabled the final forms domain to reach students at their WB student email addresses.
Lakers of the Week
Henrik Wolenberg, nominated by Mrs. Birmelin: Henrik has been a tremendous leader in his study team during class. He supports his teammates by asking questions, reading questions, and making sure each person understands the material before moving on.
Winnie Washington, nominated by Mrs. King: In advisory she has shown great leadership skills, by stepping up when asked, listening to others and participating in our circle time.
Norah Kaslly, nominated by Mrs. King: During advisory she has shown great leadership skills. She has volunteered to help when needed, shared in our circle time and listens to her peers.
Gralon Conner, nominated by Mrs. Spaman: Gralon is such a respectful young man. He is always kind to other students and willing to help whenever needed. I am so glad to have Gralon in my advisory class. Keep up the great work, Gralon!
Madeline Johns, nominated by Mrs. Borst - Madeline is always willing to help other students. She is open, honest, kind and stands up for others in a positive way.
Hadley Sawarynski, nominated by Mrs. Kreger - Hadley has made a great transition into middle school. She is a leader in every class and she puts in 100% effort every day. I'm so glad I get to work with her every day!
Viktoria Sulla, nominated by Mr. Weingarden - Viktoria is doing very well in my math class and does a great job helping her teammates.
Home Sporting Events--procedure for spectators (students and adults)
Student Spectators: if the event begins at 4:00 or earlier, students may stay in the building, supervised before attending the game.
Games that start after 4, like the one coming up this week at 4:30, require student spectators to go home and come back.
This does not mean a student can walk to Orchard Lake Mall and return, students must be dropped off by a parent to attend games after 4:00 pm.
Adult spectators: we request that if you drive a vehicle to an onsite event that your vehicle be parked in the front parking lot in a lined space rather than in the loops or on the side in the lanes as cars in these 2 areas would prohibit emergency vehicles from getting to students in the event of an emergency. It is also school policy that pets (unless approved by the superintendent or designee) not be brought to indoor or outdoor events. See below for specific details.
If you have questions, email: Lisa.Graff@wbsd.org
Keep up the great work!

Scheduling meetings with staff (emergency and non-emergency)
If you would like to meet with a teacher or support staff member (counselor, social worker, etc.) please email that person directly and request a meeting. As most staff have assignments all day long with students, they are not typically available for unscheduled or pop in meetings.
Administrative staff (principal, assistant principals, dean of students) appreciate a scheduled time to meet as well. Please email the person you wish to meet with and you will get a response within 24 hours.
If there is an emergency, please call the office to give us times to cover staff and provide the opportunity for you to meet with the staff person you need to see.
If you have any questions please let us know. We appreciate your understanding.
