Mrs. Fletcher and her Spanish classes celebrated Hispanic heritage month.
National Hispanic Heritage Month is the period from September 15 to October 15 in the United States, when people recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and celebrate the group's heritage and culture with parades, exhibitions, awards, festivals and other events.
We are also looking forward to another upcoming celebration at the end of the month, “El Día de los Muertos” (The Day of the Dead).
The Day of the Dead (in Spanish, El Día de los Muertos) is a Mexican holiday. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have passed. It is celebrated in Mexico, where it attains the quality of a National Holiday. The celebration takes place on November 1st and 2nd, in connection with the Catholic holidays of All Saints' Day (November 1st) and All Souls' Day (November 2nd). Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts.
¡Hasta pronto!
