## English/Language Arts: Mrs. Berry

This week in ELA we are working on theme and point of view. Theme is the real life message that the author is attempting to portray to the reader. Narrative point of view is the position from which the story is told as well as any biases or opinions the narrator may have that might influence the way he/she tells the story.

Please remember to turn in reading logs each week. Students are responsible for reading 20 minutes per evening. Please sign and return on Mondays.

All grades are logged into PowerSchool so please check regularly. It is the student's responsibility to turn in missing assignments.

## Social Studies: Mrs. Mortensen-Creed

This week in Social Studies we will be discussing the 13 Colonies. We will examine the struggles faced by the Jamestown Colonists, and the factors that led to the eventual success of the Jamestown Colony. We will also explore the reasons many colonists sought to migrate to North America. Additionally we discuss the settlements of the Pilgrims and the Puritans. Finally, we will investigate the nature of the three colonial regions, and the differences between these regions.

Students should be working on their Colonial Regions Interest Guide Project. Projects are due on Friday of this week. Interactive Notebooks will also be graded on Friday. On Monday of next week students will take a test on our 13 Colonies Unit. On Tuesday of next week students will switch to Science with Ms. McMillian.
