RETURN TO SCHOOL SAFETY PROTOCOLS
SKAGGS ELEMENTARY 2021-2022
Plans may be modified as needed to accommodate potential changes.
SCREENING
Symptoms to watch for:
- fever (100°F or higher), cough, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, fatigue, congestion/running nose, nausea/diarrhea, new loss of taste or smell.
Isolation Protocols
Students and staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 will be permitted to return to school when:
○ They are 24 hours fever-free without using fever-reducing medication; and
○ Improved symptoms (cough, difficulty breathing, etc.); and
○ 10 days have passed since symptoms began; OR
○ 10 days have passed since test date, if not experiencing symptoms.
If a student or staff member has symptoms that could be COVID-19 and wants to return to school prior to meeting the above criteria, they must obtain a medical professional’s note clearing them for return based on an alternative diagnosis or receive a negative PCR or antigen test.

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
- SIBLINGS will arrive/dismiss with the YOUNGEST sibling.
- NEW: Parents who arrive in a vehicle should drop off their students from their vehicle by driving through the carpool lane only. Parents should not park and exit their vehicle to walk their students to the door because there is no crosswalk for parents or students. The only parents dropping students off on foot should be those who walked to school from home.
- Students need to be able to independently open their car door and exit the vehicle.
- Parents should adhere to all traffic signs and refrain from cell phone use.
- Parents are allowed to walk students to classrooms ONLY on the first day of school.
- Parents should display their carpool tag at all times.
- Gym door (for early arrival students) opens at 7:00; closes at 7:25.
- Carpool (cars) K,1,5 students - FRONT drive / 2,3,4 students - BACK drive ( north side/between Rice and Skaggs)
- Walkers(K-5)- Enter through FRONT DOORS ONLY
- Bike Riders(K-5) - Enter through FRONT DOORS ONLY
DISMISSAL
- Carpool - Same locations as Arrival; Cars display carpool tag at all times.
- Walkers (K-5) - Exit through FRONT DOORS ONLY
Notes for Dismissal Walkers:
- Kinder/1st Students - Parents need to walk up to K/1 teacher to pick up their child; no parking at school
- 2-5 Students - Independent walkers will walk on their own. Parents picking up their student needs to walk up to the front of the building(porch) to retrieve their child.
Water Bottles and Snacks
You may choose to not send snacks if you do not want your child to uncover his/her masks in class.
BREAKFAST AND LUNCH
There will be an open seat between each student in the cafeteria. Parent may take the student out for lunch during lunch period.
Birthday Treats (New)
Effective for this 2021-22 school year, we will no longer share edible treats as part of classroom birthday celebrations.
Specialized Classrooms
PE
PE equipment will be disinfected as needed by teachers and/or students.
Students should bring their own water bottle to the gym labeled with their name. Water breaks are taken, appropriately distanced.
Art
Tables and large areas will be disinfected between use.
Shared art materials and supplies will be sanitized as needed.
Music
It is recommended that students wear a mask when singing in the music classroom.
Musical instruments, mallets and other shared equipment will be sanitized and wiped down after each use.
