Wondering about those Wildcats 2022

Updates and information about our Silliman Wildcats

A Word from the Principal

As our school year enters the month of February, we look forward to warmer weather and the beginning of spring sports. We have begun preparing for several school activities such as the Sweetheart Dance, which will be on March 12th, the Prom on April 22nd, and our annual Daisy Chain Ceremony which is on April 20th. These are just a few of the events that students in our middle and high school look forward to each year in the spring. Spring sports get underway next week with the beginning of Baseball Season. Our track, golf, and tennis seasons will begin in early March. Our elementary school will have many spring activities as well beginning with the Kindergarten Mardi Gras Parade on February 25th, the 2nd-grade Frog Race will be held in early May, the Mother/Daughter Tea on April 8th, and the annual Elementary Field Day in May.

Many times during a school year disruptions to the school day can hinder the academic performance of students. It is my goal to try to emphasize to our students to remain diligent in their studies and not get behind on homework and class assignments. We ask parents to do the same and contact the teachers if your child’s academics begin to falter.

First Grade Recycling Project

The first grades learned about recycling. They each brought a recycling creation they made at home. They presented their creation and the recycling process to the class. Congratulations, first graders, on helping us clean up our planet!

4H Representing at Feliciana Livestock Parish Show

There are many different livestock options to show in 4H and at the Feliciana Livestock Parish show -- from cows to pigs, rabbits, chickens, and goats. It was my first time showing pigs, and I put a lot of work into it. I learned from my experience in showmanship, and I won Reserved Champion overall. It was a really fun experience. I was excited to be featured in the Advocate newspaper for my winnings. - Whitley Wilson, 6th grade (4H Pig Overall Reserve Champion)
The 4-H livestock rabbit show was great for me because I was able to learn from other people how to compete. I was also able to spend time with my friends. I am learning about the different types of rabbits and able to play with them too. Mrs. Troxclair made it fun by cheering us on. When you show your rabbit, you put the rabbit in a cage and back away. Thank you, Mrs. Brittany, for giving us this opportunity to learn about showing rabbits and competing.

-Jackson Darsey (4H Rabbit Grand Champion )

4-H Club News

4H is all about leadership, kindness, and doing as much as we can to help others. At our latest club meeting, we stacked cups to make a Christmas tree. We had to work together to make sure they didn't fall. When it was Christmas, we gathered presents as a school club to give to those in need here in our community. 4H has taught me all about leadership, kindness, and what it means to give. - Allie Andrews, 5th grade

Football, Cheer, and Dance Banquet

Silliman celebrated the outstanding athletes from the 2021 season at the annual Football, Cheer, and Dance Banquet. We recognized our athletes, thanked our coaches, and recognized special effort. This year, the Cheer Squad presented the first Amy Bunch Award which was given to Ashton Siebert. The Amy Bunch Spirit Award represents the qualities of love, enthusiasm, and support for the Silliman Wildcats. The Senior Football Players were presented with a canvas with their favorite jersey with their name and number to honor them. Rachel Guidry painted the canvases and they were presented to our seniors. Thank you, athletes and coaches, and supporters, for your dedication to make 2021 a year to remember.

100 day celebration

We had many "100 year old" students attending Silliman on January 27th. These students were celebrating their 100th day of school. They counted 100s of things and released balloons into the air to celebrate this day.

Senior Night for Basketball

The Wildcats celebrated our Basketball Seniors. This group of athletes has spent years together competing and working hard to succeed. We are so proud of you seniors, and we thank you for your dedication and work!

Basketball

Our basketball team continues to work hard. We celebrated our seniors during senior night and will get to watch our Wildcats work toward District Playoff.
