Compere Corner
Our first round of academic XLT classes will be starting soon. This is an exciting opportunity for our kids to get exposure to various topics that are not currently a part of their grade-level curriculum. I wanted to share some information about XLT, so you know how it is run.
Earlier this school year, we informed you that Crystal Lake Elementary School District 47 administers FastBridge benchmark assessments in reading and mathematics three times a year to measure students’ academic achievement and growth. This initiative is part of an overarching district-wide program called Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
Parents can find Fastbridge results in ParentVue in the next few weeks
When data indicates a child is experiencing academic difficulty, staff provide targeted or intensive support through interventions like differentiated instruction, additional practice, etc. If your student has been identified as needing additional support, you will receive an emailed letter
Additionally, if your child’s data shows that they are excelling, staff will provide targeted extensions of our curriculum
Starting on October 5th ALL students will rotate on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to an academic group. Some students will receive targeted interventions and others will be placed in a group planned around exposure related to math/reading/writing
On Mondays and Tuesdays, students will stay with their current XLT teacher, focusing on Social Emotional Learning standards
Positively PBIS
Our students are busy collecting ROARS for being responsible, respectful, and safe! One of the most popular ways to redeem their ROARS is using them to purchase items at our ROAR Store.
We are reaching out to ask for your help stocking our store. Any amount is greatly appreciated! You can send donations with your student or drop them off at the front office Monday-Friday between 7:15 AM and 4:00 PM. Items needed include:
- Bulk candy or candy bars (fun size preferred)
- Gum (either bulk Hubba Bubba or small packs)
- Chips (individual serving bags)
- Takis (individual serving bags)
- Gatorade (smaller bottle sizes preferred)
- Gift Cards to Five Below, Starbucks, Target, etc. ($5 or $10 amounts)
This year our PBIS team introduced classroom ROARs for our students. Students at LMS can earn classroom ROARs when the whole class demonstrates behaviors that are respectful, responsible and safe. Once a grade level receives a pre-determined number of classroom ROARs the whole grade will earn a PBIS celebration. Ask your child how many classroom ROARs their grade level has so far.
A Message from the Librarian - September LMC Updates
The library is officially up and running! It has been so good seeing all of the students and getting back into the swing of things. A few things to know:
- The library is open all day to students. This allows them to come down at any point to return or checkout books
- I regularly meet with classes to provide lessons, book talks, and any support requested by the teacher for their specific class
- Middle schoolers come with a wide range of reading levels, backgrounds, maturity levels, and life experiences. We work hard to provide students with as much choice as possible. Please know we have books with more mature content which are considered YA (young adult). Please have conversations with your students about what you feel is appropriate for them to read. This will be different for everyone, and that's okay
- For any questions, please email jrebella@d47.org
Parent Night
It was wonderful getting to have so many of our family members visit last week for Parent Night. Attached here are the presentations shared that evening. Please complete this short survey to share your thoughts and experiences with us from that night. This feedback will be reviewed after September 20th and used to plan for next year’s event as well as future events coming this year.
Athletic Activities Coming in October!
LMS has lots of activities beginning in October and continuing into December. More details regarding tryout dates will be coming later this month via daily announcements. If your student is interested in participating, please be sure to register on https://il.8to18.com/lundahlms/home AND have a current sports physical on file in the health office. Students will not be allowed to tryout without these two steps being completed.

Chromebooks
One of the expectations for our students is to bring their fully charged Chromebook to school each day. If they forget to do so, we have a supply of loaner Chromebooks for students to use for the day. If you drop off your student's Chromebook after the start of the day, it will be delivered to the Tech Office and given to your student when they return the loaner.
Activity Buses
The intent of providing these activity buses is to enable more of our students the opportunity to participate in school activities, clubs, and sports. Activity buses run on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays throughout the school year. Buses depart from Lundahl on these days at 4:15 PM. Click the link below for the stops for each of our two routes. Activity buses are available for any Lundahl student who currently has district transportation. If your child is planning to take the activity bus, please review the attached route information with your student and identify which stop your child will use. NOTE: Activity bus drop-off locations may be different than your usual stop and may be further from your home.
School Picture Information
Pre-ordered picture packages should arrive in mid to late September and will be sent home with students. If you missed the order window, you may still order using your child's Ticket Code, which will be sent home with your student in mid to late September. Please note that a shipping fee will be added when placing an order after Picture Day with a Ticket Code, and picture packages will be shipped directly to your home. Picture Retakes will be on Wednesday, October 12 at 7:45 am.
Cell Phone Policy
As a reminder, cell phones and all mobile devices, including smart watches, MUST be TURNED OFF and put away in their locker or backpack from 7:40am-2:14pm.
If your child needs to contact you, please remind them to come to the office and ask for permission. If they follow this expectation, we will happily let them use the phone. If we find that the students are using their phones without permission, we will enforce our school procedures (see below).
Cell phones and mobile devices can be turned on at the end of the school day (after dismissal bell) and should be used primarily to communicate with parents/friends who are assisting with transportation.
Cell phones and mobile devices may not be used during transition times or between classes.
Consequences of cell phone violations:
First offense: A student using a cell phone or electronic device will be asked to surrender the phone/device to a school staff member who will turn it into the main office. Students will be reminded of the D47 cell phone procedure, receive a written warning, and may pick up the phone/device at the end of the day.
Second offense: A parent must pick up the student’s cell phone/device from the main office and the student will receive a second written warning.
Third offense: A student must refrain from bringing the cell phone/device to school OR drop off the cell phone/device in the main office at the beginning of the school day. The phone/device can be picked up in the main office at the end of the day. Students will also receive another written warning.
Drama Club
