The U.S. Amendments

By Lexi Metnick

Amendment one

Freedom of speech

Freedom of Speech is when people of the United States have the right to say whatever they would like to say unless it is violent or inappropriate. Every citizen has a right to say anything unless it is harmful to others.

History: People used to be forced to say things at certain times which is why they made this amendment.
Current Use: Now, people can say what they would like to say unless it is harmful or inappropriate.
My opinion: I think that this is a good amendment because people should not be forced to say things they don't want to.

freedom of religion

Freedom of religion is the right to not only be the religion you would like, but you can express it how you would like. However, just like freedom of speech you can not express it in bad ways or make people feel bad about their religion.
History: People came to America to have different religions, they made this amendment because people were being treated unfairly.
Current Use: Most people are treated fairly, but there are still people who are discriminated for their religion.
My Opinion: i think this is a good amendment because people should be treated fairly no matter what religion they are.

FREEDOM OF PRESS

Freedom of press is saying anything you want about people in the newspaper. If you write an article in the newspaper you do have the right to say what you want about people, but it is bad to say rude things about people or make fun of them which you do not have the right over.
History: They made this amendment because people were writing horrible things in the newspaper that shouldn't be said.
Current Use: now you can say what you would like as long as it is not inappropriate.
My Opinion: I think this is a good amendment because people should be able to write what they want to write.

Freedom of assembly

Freedom of assembly does not mean you can go into a group and start a petition against the government, it means that you have the right to peacefully assemble and petition the government only for redress and grievances.
History: They made this amendment because people were forming and assembly against the government.
Current Use: Now, people still make assemblys but they can not go against the government.
My Opinion: I think that this is a fair amendment.

FREEDOM OF PETITION

Freedom of petition is the freedom to group up with people and start a petition, however you are not aloud to make a petition if it is about the government. That is considered it being libelous. Freedom of petition is much like freedom of speech in ways that you are aloud to say or do what you would like as long as it is not harmful or against the government.
History:They made this amendment because people were petitioning against the government and it was libelous.
Current Use: Now, people can make petitions but not against the government.
My Opinion: I think that people should still have the right to make a petition against the government if they feel it is right.

The right to bear arms

The right to bear arms is people having the right to have a gun. People should be able to have any type of gun they want but it should not be to harm other people. People should only use their gun if someone tries to hurt them but unfortunately people do not listen to that rule.
History: They made this amendment because people needed defense weapons when others tried to attack.
Current Use: Now, you have the right to bear arms.
My Opinion: I think that no one should have the right to bear arms, but since people would still sneak guns anyways, people who are going to be harmed should have a defense weapon as well.
