GOAL TIME!
at Diven Elementary
Hello Diven Families,
Our students continue to work on goal setting at school, which began with the "When I grow up, I want to be..." project that we sent home to work on with your child in December. Goal setting - thinking, planning, and taking action to achieve results, is one of the most important skills that a child can learn.
Children are natural goal setters. At this age, they call them dreams. "When I grow up, I want to be policeman or an animal doctor." This is the beginning of goal setting.
It is almost impossible to do anything worthwhile without sustained effort. Children with a growth mindset believe that their goal is to learn and abilities don't always happen overnight - they need to be developed. Together, we can encourage our children and teach them that with effort, they are capable of achieving whatever they want to do in school...and in life!
In class, your child will be setting academic (school) goals like counting to 100, identifying the letters in his or her name, or identifying X number of sight words. When your child achieves a goal, we will celebrate! We will also send a notecard home so that he or she can celebrate with you too!
Your child has written a goal below to talk about with you at home. After you talk about it together, hang it on the refrigerator or in your child's room as another reminder to keep working toward the goal. It will also remind to you to check in along the way!
