Notes from the Nurse
Student Illness
Children should only be in school when they can fully participate in their educational program. Therefore, children with the following should stay at home and or will be referred home by the nurse or other school personnel:
If a child has a fever over 100 degrees, parents must keep the child home until he/she is fever free for 24 hours without the aid of medication.
If a child has diarrhea, parents must keep the child home for 24 hours after the condition ends. Diarrhea is 3 or more episodes of loose stools in a 24 hour period.
If a child vomits, parents must keep the child home for 24 hours after the condition ends.

Texas State law (Texas Family Code §65.002) requires schoolchildren ages 6 - 18 to attend school each day that instruction is provided. Once a child is enrolled in Prekindergarten or Kindergarten, the law applies to those students as well.
Please keep in mind that students who arrive after 10 A.M. are considered ABSENT. This does not mean your child should stay home. Staying home will make your student fall behind by missing an entire day of instruction.
For questions regarding your child's attendance, please contact our PEIMS Clerks:

Meet & Greet
Did you know that each day our MECC teachers and staff diligently load more than 400 students onto buses for a safe ride home?
Please remember, Southside ISD Safety protocols require a parent/guardian or authorized adult to meet their MECC student at the bus stop. Failure to abide by this safety protocol could result in the loss of bus riding privileges for your student. If you do miss your child's bus, please contact Southside ISD Transportation at 210-882-1624
