Martell Monitor
Volume 1: Week 2 August 31, 2018
Dear Martell Families,
What a fantastic start to the 2018-2019 school year! It was such an exciting new week as we welcomed new and former Mustangs back to school! There is much excitement in the air as we begin the year with our new classroom families. Our staff welcomes each and every one of you back. Your children are very important to us and we continue to work hard to provide them with the same world class education we want for our own children.
Thank you for the warm welcome! I have met so many of you and I feel very welcomed into our Martell community.
Please remember there is no school tomorrow or Monday. We wish you a happy and safe Labor Day weekend.
Here's to a great year!
In Partnership,
Michelle Barsh

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Dismissal: If you are picking your child up from school, please pull into the car loop and wait until your car is pulled up close enough for a staff member to help your child into the car.
If your child is not picked up by 3:45pm, they will be sent to C.A.R.E. and an emergency fee will be charged. We thank you in advance for helping honor our school dismissal time.
Please ALWAYS send a note to your child’s teacher if your child is going to be picked up early or is going to ride a different bus. We will not vary your child’s routine unless we have a note from you. Should you have an emergency and need to change his/her schedule, please call the office before 2:30 p.m.
Thank you!

Troy School District PowerSchool Parent Portal Access
Troy School District is now using PowerSchool for all student data.
Home Access Center (HAC) is no longer active.
You have received instructions via email to setup a new account for the PowerSchool Parent Portal. The access codes contained in the email can be used several times if more than one guardian wishes to have an account. If you did not receive the access codes, please contact the office and the staff can look up your codes.
The Parent Portal will allow you to track grades and attendance for your students. Report Cards will also be posted to the portal.
PowerSchool also has a free app available on both Apple and Android platforms. Once you have created an account, please go to your app store and search for PowerSchool Mobile.
The app will ask for a 4 digit code. Troy’s code is BMMM.
Please note – you must setup your account on the website before logging into the App.
If you are having technical difficulties, please email parentportal@troy.k12.mi.us
Thank you for your patience and support as we transition to this new system.
Martell Grounds Update
This summer, the front landscaping received a total overhaul. The existing beds were leveled as we prepare for a small area for annuals and seed.
The weeds in the playground have been sprayed by a contractor and we are scheduled to receive additional wood chips the week after Labor Day.
The Martell playgrounds are showing similar wear as the schools across the district. There is a plan in place to address replacement though sinking funds. Martell is scheduled to be addressed the summer of 2020. Until then, the district is conscious of the equipment being in safe condition for our students.
It is exciting to see these new updates. As always, we appreciate your patience and excitement as the updates are completed!

A.L.I.C.E. Implementation
The Troy School District is implementing A.L.I.C.E. as a measure to counter an aggressive intruder or shooter event. A.L.I.C.E. takes a more proactive approach in the event of a serious emergency. All employees have started training and this training will continue during the school year. We will also conduct informational parent meetings, which will be held at all four middle schools. The information below includes dates, times and locations for the A.L.I.C.E parent meetings.
