Week of December 14 - 18th, 2020
This Week at Academy of St. Benedict
Week 3 of e-learning begins on Monday. We have really seen tremendous learning opportunities and activities in progress! Attendance is excellent, especially in grades 1-8 - thank you for helping to keep your child on their schedule. Zoom expectations, for most, were met. Please be sure that your child is sitting at a table, desk or another area where they can focus on their work. The 8AM - 3PM time is school and work time. Teachers have built breaks and lunch into each day.
We have fun spirit week planned for the students this week culminating with a full school Zoom at 1pm on Friday! See the graphic below for each day's activities. Please email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) a picture of your child participating!
Join me on the school's Facebook page at 8AM each school morning for prayer and announcements. On Tuesday at 10AM, I am doing a very special Facebook Live Story Time reading The Christmas Story and making a paper chain to countdown the days until Christmas! Students will need construction paper, scissors, and tape or a glue stick! Please "share" the event on your Facebook page! This is open to everyone!
Today begins the third week of Advent. This week we light a pink candle representing Joy as we move from repentance toward the celebration of Jesus's birth. At school, we would continue to encourage acts of kindness as we wait. Please continue to encourage acts of kindness at home. Ask your child what did he/she do to show kindness each day.
December 19 - January 3 are the Christmas break dates. Our hope is that you and your families will find joy and stay safe! There is no e-learning during this period of time. We return to e-learning at 8 AM on Monday, January 4 through Thursday, January 14. January 15th is a no school day as it's a professional development day for our faculty.
We return to in-person instruction on Tuesday, January 19th. Please remember that students who have traveled must have a 2 week quarantine period before returning to the building. That means families must be back in Illinois by January 4th to return to the our building on the 19th. The list of states to which this applies is here. As of now, it applies to all states except Hawaii, Vermont, and Maine.
As you look to the building reopening on January 19, 2021, please make plans to not send students to school in any part of the orange PE uniform. It was retired two years ago. All students should be in their light blue PE uniforms on the appropriate days. The crew neck sweatshirt can be worn over the polo on cold days. Also, students must be in uniform every day. We have the polo shirts in the school building available for $10/each. Martinellis on 95th in Evergreen Park sells the gym uniform.
While the building remains closed, we are available. At any point, if you have a question reach out to me or Ms. Murphy. We are always available via email. We also can be reached on the school phone 773-776-3316.
Please call the office number between 6:30 AM- 4:00 PM if you have any questions or concerns.
