Ms. Starr's Class (English/LA)
Weekly Agenda September 19-23
ANNOUNCEMENTS
PERSUASION PROJECTS DUE MONDAY!
I have been working closely with students to ensure their success on this project, but if there are questions, PLEASE reach out to me over the weekend through REMIND or e-mail. I truly want to help! Specific details are available under the special PERSUASION PROJECT tab on my website: https://sites.google.com/a/cfisd.net/ilizabeth-starr/ This is an ASSESSMENT grade, which is a significant chunk of their average, so please make sure they are taking it seriously and that it is turned in on time.
MONDAY-LIBRARY!
Students will meet in the library for a brief session with our librarian, Mrs. Durrant. Please return any due or overdue books.
CAREER CRUISING
The students will be in the lab on Friday participating in Career Cruising--an online activity that is part of a program from the counselor's office to prepare them to create their 4-year plan for high school. You should receive a letter (sent home with your student) from the counselor after they complete this exercise. It will more fully explain the tools available. Please contact Mrs. McKinney in the counselors' office if you have questions.
TUTORIALS THIS THURSDAY!
I had my first session yesterday, and I think...I THINK it went pretty well. If your student needs assistance in my subject, please provide written permission for them to stay this THURSDAY from 2:40-3:30. E-mails and text messages are fine, just be sure to include how they are getting home.
HOMEWORK
EVERY STUDENT SHOULD BE READING FOR NO LESS THAN 30 MINUTES EVERY NIGHT!
We will be doing “Career Cruising” in the computer labs on Friday. This is an online program to help guide you in making choices for high school and your future career based on your interests.

2. What interests do you have that make this/these career choice(s) right for you?
3. Will your career require college or specialized training?
4. How long will it take for you to train for this career?

TUTORIALS
Students MUST submit a signed permission slip in order to stay for tutorials. Parents may also send an e-mail to my address, ilizabeth.starr@cfisd.net.
HELPFUL THINGS TO KNOW
- Homework is assigned EVERY week EXCEPT for the last week of each six-week period, or if/when there is a major holiday coming up. Assignments are given every Monday and are due every Friday. Students may submit homework via e-mail as an attachment by 5:00 pm Friday evenings if they did not turn it in during regular school hours.
- D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) occurs at Bleyl every day during 2nd period. It is important that your student comes prepared to read material that both challenges and interests him/her.
Please check your child’s grades online through the Home Access Center (HAC) frequently and encourage them to turn in all assignments.
- A 0.10 will be entered in the grade book for missing assignments.
- Assignments still accepted as late will be graded on a 0-70 scale (as opposed to a
0-100 scale), and will be indicated in the grade book with .10 after the grade.
REMIND Text Service
I STRONGLY recommend that each student who has a cell phone subscribes to my text service. I very regularly send out reminders, materials to study/review for tests, assignments that may have been misplaced, etc., using this *extraordinary technology*. Of course, parents are welcome to sign up as well!
Want to sign up? It's easy-breezy! Text @starr2, @starr3, @starr4, @starr6, OR @starr7 (the number is the class period your son/daughter is with me) to 81010.
If you have any trouble, please send me an e-mail (ilizabeth.starr@cfisd.net), and I'll be more than happy to call and guide you through it.

I MORE than welcome parent and student communication! Please feel free to contact me at ilizabeth.starr@cfisd.net, or messages may be left with the school receptionist at
