Red Team Weekly Update
Week of 4/27-5/1
Classroom Happenings
ELA- Mr. Jones
This week we wrote a poem as we looked at ways to create simple free verse poetry. The students started by writing a GIANT SENTENCE about a moment in time, using colorful language describing that moment. Then students learned how to turn that sentence into a poem that they wrote on their blogs.
Next week students will begin reading short stories and commenting on them in their blogs.
Science- Mrs. Creath
This week students learned about components of weather, like air masses, air pressure, and weather fronts.
Next week students will be learning about the factors that influence climate. They will learn about how latitude, elevation, proximity to oceans, ocean currents, global winds, and terrain affect climate.
Social Studies- Mrs. Pettid
This week, students wrapped up their look at Europe in the Middle Ages. We finished by examining the re-emergence of trade and the beginnings of nation states. Finally, on Thursday, students were able to participate in an Escape Room Challenge. This isn’t mandatory, but every student who correctly solves the puzzles will receive 5 points extra credit on their semester grade.
Next week, we will begin the medieval West African kingdoms of Ghana, Mali, and Songhai.
