Glen Lake Middle School Family News
Week 13, December 1
Scientist at Work
Check out what our 7th graders completed in science to learn how cells are organized. Using legos the students put together model cells as the building blocks of all living things. They created 'critters; and explained how their 'cells' were organized. Hans-on learning allows our students to be critical thinkers, communicate with each other, be creative, and get curious with their learning. All key learning goals at Glen Lake. We love Mrs. Brown's incredible applications to teaching students!
WONKA WONKA WONKA
We are taking our students to see WONKA on Thursday, December 21 the last day of school prior to our Holiday Break. We will have the movie theater to ourselves. Each student ticket will be $12. Please send cash or check made out to Glen Lake Schools to school. Ask students to bring the money to Ms. R's office in the morning or to their 1st hour teacher. It's best if it is in a clearly marked envelope with their first and last name on it, please and thank you!
Power Schools Update
As you support your child to prioritize and keep up to date with classwork one important tool to understand is, Poweschools. Below you will see all the screens a parent can modify to receive assignment information. Although it doesn't use the word "Missing", rather it says "Not Collected" which infers a missing assignment.
The "Email Notifications" screen is for the web version of PowerSchool
& the numbered pictures are for the PowerSchool app.

Staying Well Through The Holidays
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has a free online series through the next few weeks for teens, which meets on Saturdays at 2:00 - Staying Well Through the Holidays: An Emotional Health Workshop for Teens. Teens can register at the link below, and the login information will be emailed to them. Also, on this same site, there are several links to short videos about mindfulness techniques, healthy eating, and grounding exercises.

Atheltic Eligibility Update
Just a reminder on how eligibility works for the Winter sports taking place...
Requirements for athletic competition are determined by the Michigan High School Athletic Association along with the Glen Lake Board of Education. Academic eligibility will be checked Thursday of every week. Any incomplete, missing, late, or absent work must be turned in by 3:15 on Wednesday, in order to be graded and counted for the following week’s eligibility.
The following academic criteria are used to determine Athletic Eligibility.
A student-athlete will not participate in interscholastic competition if the student-athlete is receiving:
An overall failing grade (less than 60%) in any class.
Missing 4 or more academic assignments across all classes.
LIFT Programming
And just like that, November has come and gone! Last week, LIFT held its first-ever Laker LIFTsgiving. Mrs. Murphy and LIFT volunteers cooked a Thanksgiving meal for middle school students to feast on, and the LIFT room was full of gratitude, pre-holiday relaxation, and a lot of Lakers enjoying the company of their friends. A HUGE thank you to those who helped bring this together for our students.
Be sure to check out the attached December calendar. It's full of holiday fun and winter activities we can't wait to participate in together!
Remember, Middle Schoolers are welcome to join Mrs. Murphy in the LIFT room (as long as their permission form is complete) from dismissal till 5:30 p.m. every Monday - Friday.
