School Safety
- Vehicle Chaperone
- Cleared Student List
- Daily Pass Scanning
To ensure the safety and well-being of all members at N.E.W. Academy Canoga Park, we offer a routine COVID testing option for students and staff. Students and Staff must present a negative COVID test result for school admittance. Our mobile unit is on campus every Thursday from 8 AM through 3 PM. In order for students to participate in the COVID testing with their teacher, parents MUST complete a Permission Waiver. This waiver is available in the school's front office. If we do not have this waiver on file, your child may NOT participate in the COVID testing with their classmates. If we do not have your child's waiver, the student may get tested on campus ONLY if the parent is present or you may also go to your local pharmacy or clinic to update their test on your own time.
Frequently asked question:
Q: "Do I need to fill out a waiver every week in order for my child to test every Thursday?"
A: Great question! The answer to this common question is: NO - Once you have turned in your waiver, your child is cleared for our routine testing on Thursdays!
Daily Pass
Our School is working with LAUSD's Daily Pass!
In order to have access to the Daily Pass, you must enter your child's SSID and Parent Pin in LAUSD'S Parent Portal. This information was sent home with students. If you have any questions or need assistance, our staff members are happy to help you after clearing our students in the morning. Assistance is available from 8 AM-9AM.
All new enrolled students, must first have an SSID created in the system in order to have access to LAUSD's Parent Portal & Daily Pass. This may take a few days to generate while we get a PIN from the district. Please give the office a call a week after enrollment for new generated PIN updates.
Frequently asked question:
Q: "Do I register in the Parent Portal with the student's email?"
A: No. You must register in the Parent Portal with a parent's email and create a password. Once you are in the Portal, you will +ADD STUDENT with the SSID & PIN provided by our school.

WELCOME to our Parent Center
Studies have shown that parent involvement increases student achievement!
A warm welcome to all of our new and returning families!
My name is Vanessa Garcia and I am the Parent Liaison here at NACP.
We encourage all parents to be involved in their child's school!
Our school suggests 20 hours of parent participation. Parents will be recognized on the month that they complete their 20 hours during our Student Success Celebration!
Here are a few ways on how you can be part of your child's education and receive hours of participation:
- Donations- Donations are extremely appreciated and count towards your hours. You can donate items such as: classroom supplies, used uniforms that are in good condition, individually wrapped snacks for classroom birthday celebrations & more!
- Workshops: Our Parent Center has some new and returning workshops that are scheduled throughout the school year! All workshops will be virtual this year. We encourage all of our parents to participate in these FREE workshops! Virtual workshops can increase parent participation this year because if you are at work, for example, you can easily log-in through your phone or computer and listen to the class while you work (if possible)! Don't forget to write your child's name in the chat, so that your attendance and hours can be recorded!
- Teacher Assistance: Be proactive and let your teacher know that they can count on you for any take-home project assistance. Parents can help out cutting, gluing, sorting math mats or Scholastic magazines & much more!
- School Events: Parents get hours for attending school events/activities such as: Orientation, Back 2 School Night, Coffee With The Principal, & Celebrations. When Parent-Teacher Conferences come around, you will get hours for coming to your scheduled conference! Always be sure to sign-in, so that your attendance and hours can be recorded.

STUDENT NEWS FROM MS.MOLINA & MR.CASTRO
INITIAL ELPAC -MS.MOLINA
What is the Initial ELPAC?
The initial ELPAC is the English Language Proficiency Test of California. It assesses both oral language (listening and speaking) and written language (reading and writing).
Who takes the Initial ELPAC?
For any student who is enrolling into a California public school for the first time, their parents/guardians complete a form called the Home Language Survey. If a language other than English is indicated as being spoken at home then we are required by law to test your child's English language proficiency.
What is a passing score and what happens if my child does not pass the Initial ELPAC?
An overall score of 4 is required to pass the ELPAC. If your child does not pass the assessment, he/she will be identified as an English Learner (EL) and receive daily English Language Development support in the classroom. This includes both integrated ELD and Designated ELD. Your child will then take the Summative ELPAC in the spring. If an overall score of 4 is achieved, then that is the first step in the reclassification process. If your child does not pass the Summative ELPAC that spring, he/she will continue to receive English Language Development support the following year and take the Summative ELPAC each spring moving forward until an overall score of 4 is achieved.
If my child does not pass the ELPAC, does that mean they need to repeat that grade?
No. Your child will move onto the next grade level and continue to receive English Language Development support.
How can I help my child prepare for the ELPAC?
You are an important part of your child’s education. Some things you can do to help your child are:
- Read to your child or have your child read to you on a regular basis.
- Use pictures and ask your child to tell you what he or she sees, or what is happening in each picture.
- Provide your child with opportunities to use language outside of school.
- Talk to your child’s teacher about his or her listening, speaking, reading and writing skills to help support your child’s progress.
- It is VERY important to note that it is equally beneficial for you to read to your child even if you yourself are not proficient in the English language. Reading to your child in your home language and practicing the same skills above can help your child transfer these skills to the English language. So please, read, read, and read some more with your child.
