AHS Protocol Reminders

Please see the items below regarding various protocols for AHS.

A) AHS is not allowing outside food or drink in the building, which the exception of water and lunch brought from home.

B) Lanyards with picture ID's must be worn at all times in the building for safety and security.

C) If you need to drop off materials for your student, there is a table at the entrance to place the items and label them with your student's name. We will deliver the items to your student.

D) Parents will need to call the attendance line to excuse their student from school. Once this message is processed, the student will receive an email from the front office to show their teacher. They will then show the pass to the SafeEd staff in the front of the building and be confirmed to leave. The earlier in the day that the information is called in, the better we can serve your needs.

Big picture

AHS is Implementing the Positivity Project

Positive psychology is the scientific study of what makes life most worth living — and maintains that what is good in life is as genuine as what is bad. Positive psychology’s 24 character strengths are grounded in extensive research and analysis that resulted in the landmark 800-page book Character Strengths and Virtues.

Character Strengths and Virtues presents evidence that all 24 strengths exist in every person — and in all cultures of the world. Character strengths define who, not what, a person is. Ranging from bravery and forgiveness to integrity and gratitude, these character strengths are the foundation of The Positivity Project’s model. This month's character trait is an Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence!

This is the ability to identify and enjoy that which is admirable in the world. There are three types of goodness on which positive psychology focuses: physical beauty (e.g. a sunset, song, or building); an exceptional skill or talent; and moral goodness (e.g. a character strength). Appreciation of beauty can generate awe; appreciation of a skill can generate admiration, and appreciation of moral goodness can generate moral elevation. All of these feelings (awe, admiration, and moral elevation) help us forget ourselves and find increased joy and meaning in the world.

This week’s character strength example is Nicole Stott. She is a former astronaut and current artist. To learn more about the “Artistic Astronaut” you can go to her website
