News and Information
Book Orders-Book orders were in mailboxes today . If you'd like to order, you can order from Scholastic's secure website. There is no shipping and books will be delivered to school and I will hand them out to students. I'm always happy to make arrangements with you to pick them up if you would like them to be a gift for Christmas or another special occasion. All orders (online and paper - make checks payable to Scholastic) are due Friday, Sept. 14. Thank you and happy shopping!
Party Planner Wanted!
I'm looking for a person, or even a couple people, who would like to help organize our 3 parties this year. Basically I'd be giving you a list of volunteers to contact via phone, text, or email to ask for certain foods, a craft or a game. If you'd be interested in helping me out in this way, please let me know!
If you’d like to sit with your child at lunch we’d love to have you. Lunch begins at 11:47 a.m. If you wish to eat the school lunch, please call the office to order a tray.
Homework
Your child's nightly homework: Read 20 minutes every night!
Your child will not have homework this year unless:
1. They are absent and make up work for the day will be sent home.
2. They are falling behind on Rocket Math facts, at which time I will send a letter to inform you there will be homework until they catch up and/ or meet the expected level.
Reading
Math
comparing numbers using greater than, less than and equal to
skip counting (by 2s, 5s, and 10s)
ordering numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least
We will be finished with unit 1 on Monday. Next week we shift our focus to addition and subtraction facts and then we will move on to double digit addition and subtraction without regrouping. Look for activities for extra practice in their take home folders as I see where extra work is needed.
Rocket Math Facts Goals- all students should be at the following levels by:
Beginning of October: Level M of Addition facts
End of December: Level Z Addition of Addition facts
English and Writing
In writing we continues talking about what good writers do. We also discussed ways and phrases that could be helpful or hurtful when we peer edit or use the rubric to rate someone else's writing. We did our word choice Taco Fiesta on Friday with all kinds of fun word choice activities! We made dragon headbands, searched the book Dragon's Love Tacos for great word choice, used those words to create an invitation to our own taco parties, watched how taco sauce can clean a penny during science, taste tasted 4 salsa's and graphed our results in a bar graph, line plot and pictograph. It was a super busy day, and I didn't have time to do a lot of pictures during our activities, but here are some cute photo shoot ones and groups eating their walking tacos! Click the link to see us!
