CAST STEM Principal's Weekly Update

August 14, 2021

Looking Ahead

Hello CAST STEM families,

What a joyful week of Prep Days and New Student Registration! Our whole faculty family was overjoyed to see all of the wonderful families on campus. If you missed Prep Days, we will take care of you during the first week of school, August 23-27. We want to thank two special SWISD interns, Jennifer and Lucia (pictured at right), who helped us prepare for the new year.

Next week, August 16-20, all of our faculty and staff are committed to professional growth for the new year. We will prioritize New Student registration during the week so that all of our students are set up for success for the new year.

Our first day of school is Monday, August 23rd. Scholars, please make sure you commit fully to being on time and ready to learn. Our dual credit Palo Alto scholars begin their college courses on August 23rd as well. Be sure you check your Alamo Colleges email, ACES and Canvas account. You must be present on the first day of classes to stay ahead of the game.

We do ask that you continue to be patient as we balance classes to maximize student success. Schedules may continue to change through the first 3 weeks of school. Please log in to Student Self-Serve or Parent Self-Serve to review your schedule.

As we approach the last week of the summer, please take some time to enjoy a moment with your families. This week, I enjoyed watching my two children (a high school freshman and a high school senior) as they rushed off to socialize with friends, hurry to work or hurry to practices. I realized how much they matured this summer. Please take a moment to check in as a family and ask a simple question: "How are you?" Scholars - please respond with sentences when your parents ask this question. Tell them what you are looking forward to and what you might need in the new year.

In gratitude,

Ravae V. Shaeffer

Opportunities for Scholars

We believe that all scholars should feel safe, connected and ready to learn. At CAST STEM, we support all scholars as they pursue their interests and passions. Please complete the following SURVEY to submit your interests in getting connected with coaches and sponsors.

Mayor's Fitness Council is looking for leaders!

We are in need of students to represent CAST STEM by serving as a 2021-2022 Mayor's Fitness Council Student Ambassador.

Application can be found here. The deadline to apply is August 31st.

Email Ms. Triplett if you apply.

Do you need a Verification of Enrollment (VOE) Form for your driver's permit?

VOE is a form that you submit to the DPS when you are applying for a learner's permit or license. It is signed by your school administrator to verify that you are enrolled in school, attending 90% of classes in the semester prior to your application, and that you have been awarded credit for each class you took in the semester prior to applying for your license. If you need to obtain this form, please download and complete the following form and drop it off at CAST STEM. Please be sure to drop it off 24 hours in advance of when you need it. Mrs. Shaeffer will verify your attendance and credits before signing the VOE.
