Central Lee - Return to Learn
July 14, 2020
Message from Dr. Crozier
As part of our efforts to ensure the health and safety of our students, we are introducing a new concept to deliver services for our PK-6 learners at Central Lee. Please note that the following is a tentative plan and could change depending on the status of COVID-19 in our state or community.
To start the school year, we will implement a “pod” system for our PK-6 students. To do this, we will be moving all classrooms for grades 3-6 to offsite locations in Donnellson, Argyle, and Montrose. We are actively speaking with many of these locations to secure spots for classrooms. These locations will be in church classrooms, at community centers, and at other community organization spaces. By creating off-site classrooms, we can better space out our PK-2 learners in our PK-5 building, while providing more space for students in grades 7-8 in our middle school.
The pod system overall enables us to isolate groups of students and minimize exposure to the entire school environment. If a pod has a diagnosed case of COVID-19, we would simply transition the students in that pod to an online learning format for a period of time. However, we would not need to shut down the entire school building.
The pod system also allows us to create a safer environment for our staff members who work with students each day.
Ultimately, the pod system gives us the ability to continue in-person instruction with minimal interruptions for students during the pandemic. This system also enables us to quickly transition back to school once conditions improve.
The model is based on the success daycares have had over the past several weeks. We understand that, outside of school, students may be interacting with others. While we cannot control every variable, we can control how we ensure kids stay safe during their time at Central Lee.
The pod system will still have physical education, music, art, lunch, and recess for our students. We still have many details still to work out, including transportation to these locations. We will release more information in the coming weeks, once we finalize all the various partners.
As mentioned earlier, families still have an online-only option for the start of the school year. We will release our pre-registration for ONLINE only on Wednesday, July 15, for grades K-12.
Thank you for your flexibility and patience as we work many details We can’t wait to see you on August 24!
