Al-Qaeda opposes any Muslim government that is allied with the United States, and it is generally believed to support other Muslim extremists worldwide. This is unique as orginaly they were founded by the US Government. Much of the group's early philosophy probably was based on the writings of Sayyid Qutb, who intensely studied the Quran, the Muslim holy book.
