Adult CPR
How To Perform it and Tips for their Safety
Step 1 Check for Responsiveness
Ask loudly if they're ok.
Tip: Try tapping on their shoulder or touching their arm to get their attention (if relevant to situation)
Step 2 Call 9-1-1
If unresponsive and awake, ask if you should call 9-1-1. If they're unconscious, call 9-1-1
Tip: Time to Delegate. Tell one or two specific people nearby (if people are nearby) to call 9-1-1 while you focus on giving CPR
Step 3 Open Airway
Tip: Use rubber gloves (if available) to fish out anything clogging their throat (if unconscious)
Step 4 Check for Breathing and Severe Bleeding
Tip: Putting a finger under their nose is a quick way to find out if they're breathing or not
Step 5: Heimliche or CPR
Perform Heimliche on the conscious who are choking or CPR if they're unconscious and not breathing
Tip: For the heimliche, place a fist under the sternum and thrust up and in. For CPR, pump on their sternum to the beat of "Stayin Alive"
