Inter's Third Grade Newsletter!
February 8th, 2016 - February 12th, 2016
Announcements!
Gregorian/Western calendar. Lunar New Year’s falls on February 8th this year. It’s a
significant time of the year for many Koreans to spend time for paying respect to ancestors, and also have an opportunity for the entire family to engage in fun activities together, such as wear traditional clothes (hanbok), perform ancestral rites, play folk games, eat traditional food, and listen to traditional stories. We’ll have some traditional Korean games, music, dancing, food, and more!
Carnival! On February 9th students will celebrate Colegio Interamericano's annual Carnival celebration with a parade, music, and throwing of the eggshells! Although students are celebrating, students in Third Grade are required to wear their regular school uniform. Thank you for you help with this!
Art Assembly! On Friday the 12th students will be attending an art assembly featuring a famous artist from Guatemala! Students will need to wear their formal uniforms on that day; blue shirt, khaki pants, black shoes, and black belts. Thank you for your help with this!
Valentine's Day Celebration!
In addition to the hand-written notes, students should decorate a box to hold all of their valentines! Here are a few examples and links for your reference!

This week in Singapore Math!
This week students will take Chapter 13 Test on Monday, and begin Chapter 14- Fractions. Students will read, write, identify, and compare and contrast fractions. Also students will add and subtract like fractions. *FOR TUESDAY, PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD BRING IN A BANANA AND PLASTIC KNIFE SO WE CAN DIVIDE THE BANANA INTO DIFFERENT FRACTIONS! THANK YOU!
This week in Literacy!
*This week we sent home the Theme Test. At home you and your child can discuss the passage and questions together. This beneficial resource is for you and your child to discuss their "glows" and "grows" together; concepts they did well with and concepts that need to be strengthened. No points for corrections will be given, however, we would like the test to be signed and returned.
This week we will continue with Theme 10 Week 2- Money Matters. The comprehension strategy for this week is Ask Questions-Ask questions to help you understand the Author's Purpose. Author's Purpose means the author wrote the text to either persuade, inform, or entertain the reader. We will also review Making Connections. For grammar, students will review action verbs. The vocabulary for this week includes, borrow, budget fee, invest, and personal.
*RAZ-KIDS!
Please make sure your child is reading each night, listening to the stories, and taking the quizzes. Reading for 20 minutes each night is one of the best ways for your child to become a better reader. Third Grade is tracking the number of books read in order for the class to earn incentives, such as a popcorn party! Thank you for your help with this!
This week in Social Studies!
For this four- week unit in Social Studies, students will explain the impact of scarcity on the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services and then create a product. Also, students will write a How-To to explain how to make their product. They will showcase their products to other sections and explain how voluntary exchange benefits both parties.
