Community of Readers - 1,880 Books Read So Far!
Neuroscience Says Reading to Kids Improves Intellectual Empathy
This week I came across this article which asserts "At the end of the day, (when you read to your children) you're teaching (them) not only to become better readers, but more effective people -- intellectually empathetic people who have "better relationships," and who often turn out to become "better bosses, co-workers, negotiators, and friends." Reading to children and modeling good reading habits have lifelong positive benefits both personally and professionally.
Help support healthy reading habits in our students by participating in our "Community of Readers" Initiative. Our goal is to read 15,000 books between March 1st and May 21st. Forward this newsletter link to friends and family to help us reach out goal -- One book at a time!!

Student Choice in Enrichment Activities
Click on the April Enrichment Calendar for the schedule and live links. Initial feedback on our enrichment classes has been positive, and we encourage students to take advantage of these opportunities! If students choose to attend an enrichment class, be sure to attend only at a time that is not previously scheduled with a classroom teacher, ESL teacher, basic skills teacher, G/T teacher or resource room teacher.

A Note From Miss DiNardo, School Counselor
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. We all are responsible for preventing child abuse and neglect, and for trying to lessen the occurrences of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). In these months of COVID 19, at-risk families may be facing even more stressors, which could have a negative impact on their children.
If you suspect that a child is being mistreated, please call 1-877-NJABUSE (1-877-652-2873). This is the state’s child abuse hotline.
DCPP (Division of Child Prevention and Permanency; formerly DYFS} offers support and services to families in need. That call center can be reached at 1-877-652-2873 (same as above).
TEXT “NJ” to 741741 connects kids and families to a trained counselor in a time of crisis.
And, 2ND FLOOR is a 24/7 hotline for youth. Call or text 1-888-222-2228, or go to 2ndfloor.org.
Should you require more information or resources, please email me at ddinardo@trschools.com.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our precious children.- To quote a slogan used for another purpose, “If you see something, SAY something!”
