4th Grade Newsletter
Mrs. Wiley & Ms. Thurman
Happy Friday Parents!
We just finished our half way mark in our 1st nine weeks. On Monday, October 3rd, Progress Reports will only be sent home with students that are currently failing this grading cycle. Please look for these reports in your child's Red Folder next week. For parents/students that do not receive a progress report, but are curious on how your child is progressing so far, please click on the following link to have access to Focus grading parent portal.
You can sign up, using the link below, to have electronic access to your child's attendance and grades. This information is intended for the use of the student and the student's parent(s) or legal guardian(s) only.

Remember, grades below a 70, can be made up by having your child correct the mistakes, parents provide a signature, and then your child needs to turn this back into the respective teacher in a timely manner before each grading period is closed. Please note that we are only midway in our 1st nine weeks, so there will be more grades entered for each subject. The grades that you see now are only a reflection of your child's current progress. Their average will/should increase by the end of the nine weeks.
On another note, our homerooms are in need of Library parent volunteers. If you are interested & available, please click on the following links below to sign up for days/times.
Thank you! :)

A message from Mrs. Wiley:
Reading:
This week, the students will focus on inferring character traits based on the fiction stories that we read a loud together. Together we will use the character's actions & reactions to infer their motivations & traits.
Language Arts:
This week, we will focus on Common & Proper Nouns. Last week, we completed the 1st step to the Expository Writing Process: Brainstorming & filling out our Planning Pillar. Now, we are moving forward to Drafting, Revising, Editing, and Publishing our class Expository writing.

Math:
This past week we have been working so diligently with multiplying whole numbers, 4-digit by 1-digit. Phew! What a week! However, I do feel like many of our students eventually understood and mastered the 4 different ways we went over multiplying. This upcoming week is a big one. We will still be multiplying whole numbers, but this time 2-digit by 2-digit and estimating the product. Yes, once again, buckle up, there is a lot of hard work ahead of us this week.
Science:
We will continue our investigations on the different landforms!
Social Studies:
We have officially started Social Studies! This week we started learning about the Presidential Election process. Again, this is not dealing with the current Presidential Election. We will continue to talk about the process to becoming the President of the United States. Who knows, I might be teaching our future POTUSJ
