General Info
Pluto is two thirds the diameter of our own moon. It was discovered in 1930 by an astronomer named Clyde Tombaugh. Pluto is the ninth planet from the sun. It is located in the Kuiper belt. The temperature on Pluto is estimated to be about 375-400 degrees bellow zero. It has 4 moons Charon,Nix,Hydra,Styx,and Kerberos. Pluto is 3.6 billion miles from Earth. Pluto is 1,473 miles in diameter.Pluto is a dwarf planet.
What Pluto Is Made Of
Pluto is about 50-70% rock and 30-50% ice.There is also a thin layer of nitrogen,carbon monoxide,and methane on its surface.
Pluto's Size
Pluto is about 1/6 the size of Earth.It is even smaller than are own moon!
Pluto Compared To Its Own Moons
In the picture above you see Pluto being compared to its own moons. The biggest moon you see is Charon,it's the biggest moon of Pluto. Charon is about half the size of the (dwarf) planet it is orbiting. It is also is eight times less massive. Charon's diameter is about 750-753 miles (1,207-1,212 kilometers).
Interesting Fact
Pluto was in fact named after the Roman god of the underworld and riches his named Pluto. The named was suggested by a 11 year old girl in England. This picture is one of many different images of Pluto it is the one I personally like better than other images.
