A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL SCRIVO
I am so excited to announce our continued partnership with 1st Day School Supplies. We have collaborated with 1st Day School Supplies to help parents and teachers get the exact school supplies needed for the 2019/2020 school year without the hassle and aggravation of shopping at Walmart, Target, or Staples. You simply order all of your school supplies online and they are delivered to the school for you.
The teachers have created grade level specific lists for their classrooms. Your supplies will be delivered to Scotch in a customized kit for your child at the beginning of the school year. Students will receive 50 customized labels in their kit to personalize their items. Teachers will be providing students time to label their items.
I’ve personally found 1st Day School Supplies to be convenient, easy and hassle free plus the prices are competitive! The reason we chose 1stdaysschoolsupplies.com is that they are a family owned and operated company, several other schools near us use them, and they provide the best quality school supplies. You can order your supplies until June 30th. So, put your order in today! You can make your purchase right now, get started by clicking HERE.
Please sign up and don't forget that our school is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive through the Pint-Size Hero program. Our blood drive will be held this Thursday, May 9th from 2 - 8PM. This program will introduce students to the components of blood and the importance of blood donation. Your student will have the opportunity to show leadership and help save lives by recruiting blood donors for our upcoming blood drive. You can support your student, our school and help save lives by donating blood, recruiting other donors or volunteering at the blood drive. Please sign up HERE and enter sponsor code WBSDscotch!
Scotch Elementary School 2018 - 2019 School Improvement Goals:
- 60% of students will meet or exceed their projected growth in reading and math based on NWEA MAP by June 20, 2019
- 90% of students will be proficient in informational writing.
- 100% of staff and students will implement and carry out Capturing Kids' Hearts with consistency and fidelity.
**IMPORTANT DATES FOR M-STEP TESTING**
Michigan's Statewide Assessment is called M-STEP which stands for the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress. The M-STEP will be administered to our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students in the spring. You can assist us during this testing window by reducing absences, reinforcing good sleeping and eating habits, and encouraging your student(s) to do their best. The testing windows are listed below.
Thank you for your support!

SPRING CLEANING
Please place clothes, toys, and small household items in our DAV bin in the front parking lot. The Disabled American Veterans will sell these items in their thrift stores and give money to Scotch for each full bin emptied. Remember to place items in a tied bag.
Got markers? Old, used markers? Please send them to Mrs. Farrell in Room 18. Any brand accepted (dry erase, Sharpies, and highlighters, too). Scotch is enrolled in Crayola's ColorCycle program. Last year, we sent 30 pounds of markers to Crayola to be recycled!
ATTENDANCE
Call the Scotch Safeline at 248-865-3282 by 9:30AM if you know that your child will be late or absent from school. If you have not called the safeline by 9:30AM, you will be automatically notified via phone/email that your student is absent from school. Your student's absence will be unexcused unless we receive a phone call within 24 hours.
MUSIC @ SCOTCH 5TH GRADE!
Concert: May 8 @ 6:00pm in the Scotch Cafeteria
Attire: Dressy! This is their last performance at Scotch, so let's get dressed up.
Be here: Please try to arrive at 5:45 so the students can get lined up in their classrooms before the concert. The music lasts about 22 minutes.
I am creating a music video for the concert and I would like to include photos of the students, “In The World.” If you have a digital photo of your child some place identifiably in another part of the world (Paris, London, Bahamas) etc., please send me a copy at the address below. I’m also looking for photos to go with a sports themed song, so a photo of your child doing an activity or sports would help. And finally we are doing “The Story of My Life,” so if you can send a photo of your child when they were younger and a “matching” photo to go with it, that would be terrific. Thanks so much for your help.
