Freedom Of Choice
People Should be Allowed to Make Their Own Choices
" The Lottery"
Quote: "It isn't fair, it isn't right," Mrs. Hutchinson screamed, and then they were upon her.” (Jackson 7).
Analysis: This quote support my thesis because if Mrs. Hutchison had a choice she wouldn’t have died. She wouldn’t even have participated in the lottery. Murder is never acceptable.
" Harrison Bergeron
Quote: “Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General” (Vonnegut 1).
Analysis: This quote support my thesis because, it tells how everyone HAD to be the exact same due to the law. Everyone should have the right to be their own person and to think in ways they want to think] . This caused Harrison to try and over throw the government and he ended up getting killed.
In this story Mrs. Hutchison got stoned to death. The problem was that all the citizens was ordered to participate in a tradition called 'the lottery'. The winner of the lottery gets killed, and Mrs. Hutchison happened to be that winner.
Harrison and other citizens was ordered to all be the same. No one can be smarter or better than the other. Harrison didn't like that and he tried to take control over the government and ended up getting killed.
