Happy Memorial Day!

May 19, 2016

As a reminder, LHS will be closed to students on Friday, May 27th and Monday, May 30th in observance of Memorial Day weekend. Gow Wows at Science Fair

Junior James Gow earned a third place honor in the 2016 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), the world’s largest international pre-college science competition! Over 1,700 high school students from 77 countries were awarded the opportunity to showcase their independent research on an international stage, where doctoral-level scientists reviewed and judged their work. James won third place in the Cellular and Molecular Biology category for his presentation on the research he has been conducting at Rutgers University for the last four years, titled, Testing Valproic Acid and Surfactant Regulation as Potential Therapeutics for Nitrogen Mustard Injury.

Awesome work, James!

Brantley, was crowned Mr. LHS 2016 along with his lovely escorts, Jaclyn Drury and Carly Piazza, who were each were crowned with tiaras. This year's runner up was Audley Clarke, escorted by Daryl Hoehne and Destiny Jones.

LHS Teacher Honored

Debbie Randall, a long standing science teacher at LHS (28 years), recently received a letter of recognition, certificate, and monetary donation from The Society of Chemical Industry (SCI) for being an outstanding teacher who motivates student interest in science.

Ms. Randall was nominated to receive this award by a former student, who is a college scholar student in the field of Chemistry or Chemical Engineering that received a summer internship at a SCI facility. Congratulations on this wonderful honor!

Cadet Spearheads Act of Kindness

In the last newsletter we shared with you a story about our LHS track team making a banner to give to the Robbinsville team at a recent track meet. Click HERE to read the full story and follow the idea from its roots. LHS junior Tristan Cadet led the charge, bringing his compassionate idea to life with the help of his teachers, coaches, and peers.

This story is a wonderful reminder about the importance of giving back to others and the difference we can make just by reaching out a helping hand!

A "Celebrity" Among Us

If you watched the NBA Eastern Conference Finals on May 17th, you might have seen a familiar face...or two! Our very own Mr. Joel Green was featured in a commercial playing one-on-one against himself to promote the Evolution of Champions 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. Missed the game?
