March 6, 7, and 8, Guys and Dolls, Jr., Springhouse Middle School Spring Musical, 7 PM each day with a 2 PM matinee on March 8. Set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City, GUYS and DOLLS, JR. introduces us to colorful characters who have become legends: Sarah Brown, the up­right but uptight "mission doll,"; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide, a nightclub performer whose chronic flu is brought on by the fact she's been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiancé, desperate as always to find a spot for is infamous floating dice game. Tickets are $5 at the door.

March 6, 7, 8 and 9, Disney's Beauty & The Beast, Jr., Orefield Middle School Spring Musical, 7 PM on March 6, 7 and 8, 2 PM on March 9. “Be our guest” and step into the enchanted world of Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST JR. Featuring songs from the Academy Award-winning animated feature, this stage version will transport you to the heart of a quaint French town, where Belle, a beautiful and intelligent young woman, yearns for something more than her provincial life. Belle surrenders her freedom to save her father from a horrible Beast and, by taming the Beast, teaches him the meaning of love. Tickets are $5 at the door.

March 8, Entertainer of the Year, 7 PM, PHS Auditorium. This student talent show, sponsored by the PHS Leo Club, will showcase a variety of acts. All profits will go to the Josh Kates Rehabilitation Fund, a fund set up for a student who was tragically hit by a car when he was walking across a street in December.

March 8, Schnecksville Elementary Talent Show, 5 PM. Come see your friends on stage and be entertained by Schnecksville's home-grown talent. Free admission, priceless entertainment.

March 10, Are You Smarter Than a Teacher?, PHS Library, 3 PM- 4:30 PM. For the second year, the Spanish Honor Society and National Honor Society are joining forces for a highly competitive afternoon of "Are you Smarter than a Teacher?" More than 35 PHS staffers will compete against eight student teams. The event will raise money for the Parkland School District Education Foundation.

March 13, Red Cross Club Fundraiser at YoFresh, 4-9:30 PM. March is National Red Cross Month. Join the PHS Red Cross Club in raising support for the Greater Lehigh Valley Chapter. When you mention the Club, 20% of profits will go towards the cause.

Announcements/Achievements

Indoor Percussion Champions
This past Saturday the Parkland High School Indoor Percussion Ensemble, comprised of 34 students, competed in an international competition in Trumbull, CT and took first place over 13 of the most elite programs in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Canada. This is the first time in school history that we have ever won a WGI regional championship!

Computer Fair Results
The following students competed in the 2014 PA Regional Computer Fair and earned 1st Place Awards which will allow them to represent Parkland at the state competition in May.

Middle School Science Fair Results
Congratulations to our OMS and SMS first place winners at the regional PJAS (PA Junior Academy of Science) competition! Parkland was well represented at the competition; our students brought home 100 first place finishes with 7 perfect scores. The first place winners will go on to compete at the state level at Penn State University later in the year. Chessnuts

The Parkand High School Chess team won the Lehigh Valley Chess competition. The gold medal winners will move on to the state competition are Christian Wadsworth, Changyan Wang, Josh Goldin, Garrett Hunsicker, and Teja Kadewar.
