Mix It Up Lunch
By: Hannah (reporter) and Sydney (editor)
Mix it up at lunch day is a nationwide event held on the last Tuesday of October every year. It is also held on bullying awareness month, October. On this day many wore orange to raise awareness for a huge problem in many schools. Our amazing 6th grade student council makes this event possible. The election was held about two weeks before this exciting day,so student council had to put up posters, make tickets, and get some good ideas within roughly 16 days.
Our news team decided to interview and photograph some new 4th graders to get their opinions about Mix It Up at lunch day.when it was time, I walked in excitedly. Although it was a cloudy day, what I saw was high-spirited 4th graders making new friends, talking, laughing, and having a good time. After running around asking for interviews, I finally got several “I think it’s awesome” said one happy 4th grader. “It’s fun because you get to meet new friends!” Many others said they enjoyed it as well.
In conclusion, the Mix it Up at Lunch day was a huge success. This event can help bullying problems in schools by others making new friends and embracing differences, it was an amazing experience for our 4th graders. I hope you enjoyed it too.

Northside Movie Night
A Spooktacular Event
By: Olivia (reporter) and Abby (editor)
It was the week, before Halloween and the halls of Northside were still. Mr. Smith began planning Northside’s annual Spook Central. In a small room by the library, Mr. Smith transformed the space into a place where only tales could be told. The dark room was decorated with glow in the dark skeletons, fake leaves, and a pumpkin that had a small light in side.
During Spook Central, short spooky Halloween stories were read to all classes who dared to enter the spooky room. Kailynn from Mr. Whipple’s 5th grade class remembers the story about a toe. “My favorite part of the story was the part when the guy heard someone say, where’s my toe? “ Hailey from Ms. Cerny’s 4th grade class really liked when, “the author revealed that the Godfather was actually Bernard because during the story I kept wondering who was Bernard?”
Turns out that this year’s Spook Central was a spooktacular hit! Alexis from Mrs. Gille’s 5th grade class was very excited to see what will happen next year. Spooky it was indeed! A possible twist for next year? “Maybe when you enter, have a small maze, where you could grab a piece of candy.” Said Hailey. “Then, you could munch on the candy while you listen to the story.”
Being my last year at Northside, I will miss Mr. Smith’s Spook Central. I have enjoyed listening to the many stories. Advice for next year…...enter if you dare…..muhahahah! Muhahahah!

Basketball Unit
By: Owen (reporter) and Abby (editor)
In gym, we have different units based on sports. Such as, football and soccer. But this unit isn’t one of those, it’s basketball! When I went to go talk to Ms. Gibson, she told me that they were planning on the unit to be completed by December. She told me that in the next lesson, they would be playing lightning, pin guard game, and dribble relay. Now, basketball is a pretty well known sport and most kids, were excited for this unit. She also said that they would be doing dribble test and shooting test also in the next lesson.
Fourth Grade Events

They all said that they were looking forward to hearing the music, and that they were expecting to hear and see at least 20 different types of instruments. Their favorite instruments are the violin and trombone and they were hoping to hear them at the orchestra. One question we asked them was, why do you think the school includes this field trip? They replied, “I think they do, so that we can be ready Incase we want to do band, and so that we can learn about and hear all the different types of instruments.”
Later that month, we got a chance to interview these three fourth graders again, after the performance. They said that they did, in fact, get to hear the violin and trombone at the orchestra and that their favorite parts of the trip were hearing the different types of instruments and the delicious lunch. They also told us that there least favorite part of the field trip was that it was very loud and it was hurting their ears. Here is what they would like to say to future students who go to this event: be prepared for the big finale and don’t fall asleep.
Overall, it sounds like they enjoyed themselves. Please check in again next month, for more stories on Northside's fourth grade events.
5th Grade News
Mrs. Nording’s class did a coding project with their narratives, that they wrote. They did so on a app called Bloxels. On this app, they took their narratives and made them into a game. They described their narratives the best way they could and made an amazing game out of it.
I spoke with some kids in the class. One kid’s name is Owen. He said “it’s really fun. You get to create whatever you want.” Another girl named Elizabeth said “it is really fun to code the people in the narratives. Also code in the whole narratives.” The rest I asked other questions like “would you do this again” or I asked them about their projects. Annika said “I wrote about my horse and how I had to gain my confidence. Coding this was really fun and helpful” She made a really great game and so did everyone else. I asked a boy name Noah all about it. He said “it was really fun and he would be it again more then gladly” Kelaney said “My favorite part is where I get to create everything that is my story it’s just fun in general I would definitely do this all again” Theses kids and all the other kids made amazing games out of little cubes. They even made the characters. I am proud to say that this project would be the best that I’ve seen so far.

Movie Review: Gremlins (80's Special)
By: Eli (reporter) and Samantha (editor)
THIS...MOVIE...IS...Amazing! Kids will have a blast watching Gremlins because it has everything you need in a movie: laughter, action, suspense, and a little horror. It also blasts you back to the funky 80’s nostalgia. It’s about a inventor that picks up a Christmas present for his son and it turns out that the Christmas present turns out to be a cute, fluffy, innocent little gremlin. The story is produced by the king of 80’s movies...Stephen Spielberg!
So, this movie has moments where it’s scary, but it can be funny and relaxing at some aspects of the movie. Parental guidance Is suggested (Don’t worry it’s PG).
It is cool and all, but there are somethings I didn’t like about it. he lack of characters. Ok, I get that the movie takes most of the time on the gremlins. Ok, I get the fact that the gremlins are too cute to be switched to another view of a character, but if you are going to add human characters in the movie. At LEAST give the actors a shot at this. If you are going to make a movie about Gremlins...Give us some more character situations! I am not saying you guys should not watch this movie. It’s a good movie, but the lack of character views was the only thing I didn’t like about it. You guys should take your time to watch this movie. I am giving this movie an...A+
It had good acting and the gremlins were a big part, but the movie should’ve taken more time on the actors. However, the gremlins did a good job with playing there “little” roles and it had a good feel to the movie and it was cute and funny so...I recommend this to ALL ages!!! I will be back to review the movie...
