News and Updates From FSMA
Did you know you gave back to FSMA this week?
The FSMA Book Fair is a win-win event. Our children get to pick out and purchase books and it directly benefits FSMA. When your children purchase books, we receive points for each dollar spent. The points are shared between the PTO and the library. After this year's book fair, our library will receive $1800 worth of books and our PTO will receive $950 that will be applied to teacher professional development activities (like the AMS conference). So.... children get books, teachers get new learning opportunities, and our school library gets resources!
A great big thank you to all of our amazing book fair volunteers and the co-chairs of this event, Mae-Lynn Smith and Lisa Cleveland.
And, if you are adding your new purchased to your bookshelf and find you have books you no longer need/want, our library is always accepting book donations.

Beautifying our City
On Tuesday, we partnered with the Delaware Center for Horticulture on a special project. Each of our 4th/5th and 6th graders planted 10 - 20 crocus bulbs in Rodney Square. Yes, that means that in Spring, we can expect to see over 1,000 plants popping up and making our city a more beautiful place.
A special thanks to Beth Stark for developing this project... and a special thanks to all of the parents who joined us to dig holes and supervise this exciting event.
Mark Your Calendars:
11/13 - World Kindness Day... what does this look like at FSMA? We encourage children to wear something that has a geographic location on it. Classrooms will talk about the places and do different activities at different grade levels around geography. This year we are adding a second component to the day... while we encourage children to practice kindness at all times, we will be incorporating extra Random Acts of Kindness into the day. And, this isn't limited to school... you could surprise your child, your child's class or your child's teacher with a random act of kindness!
11/20 and 11/23 - Parent/Teacher Conferences;
At FSMA, we have conferences with ALL families in the Fall and the Spring. We will be sharing your child's strengths and goals for the upcoming months. If you have not scheduled your conference yet, please do so!
