Fourth Grade Explorers

Fourth grade had such a fun time exploring light in science! We did a lot of hands-on learning by experimenting with materials that reflected, refracted, or absorbed light. We also got to play with prisms which was a special treat!

Fifth Grade Explorers

This past week, 5th graders finished our riveting historical fiction novel, Refugee. To show their understanding and excitement of the book, students collaborated in small groups to create a giant poster that represented one of the 3 main characters. Through this book and mini project, students were able to apply their reading comprehension skills, work as a team, and use their creativity. We love that students enjoyed the book as much as teachers did and we are so proud of their efforts!

Northwood Monthly Awards - December

Valentine's Day Message From Fulton County Schools

From Fulton County Schools

As we approach Valentine’s Day, it is important to send out a reminder that all homemade candy, desserts, baked goods, or other edible items are not to be brought, sold, or distributed at school, and that ONLY appropriate store-bought items are shared. Please know that taking this measure will help us maintain a safe environment for all students with allergies, etc. You can help us protect your student(s) by requesting that they not eat anything given to them by a friend, anything that they have not brought from your home or anything not in its original sealed package.

From Northwood

With Valentine's Day approaching, make sure to review information from homeroom teachers regarding their plans for that day. As a reminder, no baked goods (homemade or store bought) should be sent to school.

Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping all of our students safe at school!

The world famous Harlem Wizards Basketball Team is heading back to Centennial High School to take on the teachers in this family-friendly fundraising basketball game. Come see Northwood teachers Jonathan Dixon, Krystal Smith, Karen Sotola, and Kellen Stark play on Sunday, February 5th at 3 pm, at Centennial High School.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Northwood.

Northwood Artist Day - Call for Artists

Artists and performers needed for Northwood’s Artist Day!

Are you a painter, sculptor, fine artist, musician, performer, dancer, craftsperson or someone with other creative talent? Northwood’s Artist Day committee is putting together this year’s event and WE NEED YOU! Last year’s artist day was a smashing success and we hope to make this year even better for our explorers. If you are interested in participating or would like more information, please contact Mollie Katzin (katzinm@fultonschools.org)

Handbook Highlights - Late Arrival/Tardy

The school day for students begins at 7:40 am. Students are permitted to enter the school building at 7:10 am after the school bell rings. If you are carpooling, students are expected to remain in cars with their parents until the bell rings at 7:10 am. Parents are not permitted to drop off their children unsupervised outside/inside the school any time before 7:10 am. These procedures are in place for the safety of all students.

Late Arrival/Tardy

Late arrival is any time a student arrives after the beginning of the instructional day. If you are not in the building by 7:40 am, you are considered tardy. If this occurs, parents must accompany their student in the building and sign them in at the front office.

Save Time For You, Less Stress For Your Student

This school year we've upgraded to an integrated attendance system where there is one laptop designated for checking students in and out. While the new process is efficient; a line can form when there are multiple tardies. Save yourself time waiting to check in; and lessen the stress for your children by arriving before 7:40 am.

Hardship Transfer Deadline - February 28

Hardship Transfer applications are available beginning Jan. 1 for parents who wish to apply for a 2023-24 hardship transfer or to renew a current hardship to another Fulton elementary, middle or high school. Parents will use an online form to enter and submit their information. Get more info and access the application here.

MISSING SOMETHING?

Parents, please encourage your students to check regularly for lost items in the Lost and Found. Please mark all student belongings clearly with the child’s name so that it can be identified. Unclaimed items are donated to local charities after the last school day of every month. January’s date is Monday, January 30th.
