Summary-

One day in the Hill, sat a Hobbit looking for nothing but peace and quiet, when a wizard named Gandalf came by. Bilbo didn't know it at the time but that was when his journey first began. Gandalf the wizard sends him on a quest with 13 dwarves. The dwarves seek to reclaim their gold from the dragon that guards it in a mountain cave. They face many dangerous unknown obstacles during their journey. Bilbo grows along the way, facing challenges as they're tossed in front of him. The dwarves doubt Bilbo's capabilities at first, but he proves himself exceptionally brave and clever and by the end is highly regarded by his companions. Bilbo discovers more courage and "Tookish"-ness in him than he ever knew he possessed, and transforms in ways he never would have imagined.

My four favorite quotes~

1. "Then Biblo understood. It was the wizards voice that had kept the trolls bickering and quarrelling, until the light came and made an end of them."

2."Sss, sss my preciouss,"he said. "Sun on the daises it means, it does."-Gollum

3." Maddened and angry they were leaping and howling round the trunks, and cursing the dwarves in their horrible language, with their tongues hanging out, and their eyes shining as red and fierce as the flames."

4."He fell upon their rear, and broke like a clap of thunder through the ring."

My two favorite characters are~

Gollum: Gollum is a small slimy creature. He was as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face, long fingernails, and he liked meat .He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake.

Beorn: Beorn was a Skin-Changer/Great Black bear. He was a kind fellow if he liked you, and when the hobbit and dwarves came he believed their story and offered to help in any way that he could. Beorn gave them advice for Mirkwood.

Theme-

You may be as small as a Hobbit but that doesn't mean you cant achieve a goal that others think is unachievable for you. Push the limits, do your best, and never give up no matter the situation. Nor should you turn back, take Bilbo for instance, did he ever turn back or give up? He wanted to but he never did, because people were counting on him and he couldn't disappoint them.

The Ordinary World~

Bilbo is just sitting at home in his hobbit hole on The Hill. He is just like an ordinary hobbit, very respected, not only because most of them were rich, but because they never had any adventures or did anything unexpected. Mr.Baggins, just like any other hobbit liked to eat a lot, loved peace and quiet, loved to laugh, and loved the colors green and yellow.

The Call to Adventure~

One day Bilbo, was standing at his door after breakfast smoking an enormous long wooden pipe that reached nearly down to his woolly toes, when Gandalf came by.

Refusal of the Call~

When Gandalf asked Bilbo if he wants an adventure, Bilbo he keeps saying good morning and ignores the question. Then he says asked Gandalf for tea tomorrow in a moment of hesitation and hurries inside.

Meeting with the Mentor~

Gandalf, he thinks Bilbo is the right person for the job because he was a Took, and that it was his call for adventure. He know that Bilbo would be a great choice for the job even before they began there journey.

Cross the Threshold~

Bilbo's journey begins when the dwarves and Gandalf show up at his house to meet the one Gandalf choose for the quest. His fears at this point are kind of going in all different directions for example he is shocked that he got chosen, scared at what is going to happen, and startled by all the dwarves at his house.

Texts, Allies, and Enemies~

Bilbo has multiple friends, Gandalf the wizard, Thorin, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, Bumbor, Balin, Dwalin, Fili, Kili, Ori, Nori, and Dori, the dwarves. But at the same time Bilbo also has a lot of enemies like Gollum, the Elf-King, and Smaug. There was also a great amount of tests he had to go through; For example he was first tested when the dwarves sent him to go see the fire which turned out to be a campfire with the Trolls, William, Bert, and Tom. The second example is when he met Gollum, he had to be smart and careful, lastly he had to save the dwarves from the spiders with only the help of the ring.

The Approach~

They review what is to be done and who was to get it done. Bilbo, has the hardest job because he was chosen to be the burglar which leads to him doing all their hard work. That included stealing all the riches from the dragon, Smaug.

Ordeal~

The biggest life-or-death situation Bilbo goes through is when he faces Smaug. When he faced Smaug he was smart and had on his ring to keep him hidden, and luckily Smaug did not know the smell of hobbits so he did not know what he was. Bilbo ends up getting away back to Smaug's cave which they are using for hideout. But the death of Smaug did not come from Bilbo, it came from Bard, the Bowman.

Reward~

Bilbo earns 1/14th of the share, but when he betrayed Thorin he lost their friendship and was kicked out of their base in the Misty Mountains. But when Thorin is on his deathbed he wishes to see Bilbo, which he makes peace with before he goes, and asks for forgiveness for the harsh words he said earlier. He also states that Bilbo has earned the 1/14th of the money and even more, for all the great he has done for the dwarves and him. Bilbo had taken his share as the Arkenstone in secret, then gave it away, which leads him to only walk away with only two small chests as a reward in the aftermath of all his journey.

The Road Back~

Bilbo has a mixture of sadness and happiness; For example he is sad that he is leaving Thorin, Fili, and Kili behind. But he is happy to be on his way home to his cozy hobbit hole in the Hills.

Resurrection~

On his way home, Bilbo gets greeted by almost everybody on the way home. They are offering he to come and visit anytime he would like. They view him as a strong, brave hero that help many through a very hard journey that was a success, but though some fell along the way.

Return with the Elixir~

Bilbo comes home to see that they thought he was dead but soon after he becomes the same as any other hobbit again. He was no longer quite respectable, but he was in fact held by all the hobbits of the neighborhood to be "queer"- except by his nephews and nieces on the Took's side. Bilbo has grown into a strong independent hobbit that can conquer anything he sets his mind to. I think in the future he will make better and improved choices journey or no journey.
