Hello everyone,

It is September, and we are moving right along! Progress reports will be given out this Friday. If your child has a .01 listed as a grade this means he/she can still turn in the assignment. The .01 is just a placeholder, not a grade for an assignment.

The students have access to see all of their grades in PowerSchool, but the parent portal has not been opened yet. We will let you know when we can open the Parent Portal.

Our Spirit Week is September 20th -24th. We will have dress-up days during the week, and in the place of a Pep Rally, we will have a parade outside on campus on Wednesday of that week. We will end the week with our Color Fun/ Color Run Day on Friday, September 24th.

Yes, this is a week of many FUN activities. Researchers have documented a rise in mental health problems and this has paralleled with the lack of opportunity for students to play and have fun. It has been noted in research that adolescents need to take time to play.

For these reasons, we do value playing and having fun. Are academics important, absolutely, but we want to make sure we allow time for our students to have fun too!

As you can see below, our admin team had fun advertising the Color Fun/Color Run Day today! Don't forget, the DEADLINE TO REGISTER is FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 10th!!! All of the details are in this newsletter.

9-24 Fri. COLOR RUN FUN!



The Bumpus Color Run will take place on Friday, September 24.

September 10 is the last day to register for the Color Run and still receive your official 2021 Color Run shirt. The Color Run is a full day of fun ending with the run at 1:45 PM, and our participation levels typically reach close to 100%. Parents are encouraged to register through My School Fees, but paper registration forms are available in each grade level office. A registration form is required for EACH participant, including parents. Paper registration forms along with the cash OR check payment will be collected September 10th only! A $30 registration fee includes a 2021 Bumpus Middle School Color Run shirt and 1 color packet. Additional color packets may be purchased for $5/2 packets. September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Suicide Prevention Week is 9/5 to 9/11, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people ages 10 – 24. It is also one of the leading causes of PREVENTABLE death. We lose approximately 130 young people nationwide in this age group to suicide each week. FOUR out of FIVE teens who attempt suicide have given clear warning signs. That means in 80% of these cases we have an opportunity to intervene and possibly save a young person who is at-risk.

If you are immediately concerned about your child or a friend, text Crisis Text Line at 741741 or call the Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). These services are free, confidential and available 24/7.

In order to better serve our students this year, we would like to have your input on the Counseling Department here at Bumpus. Please know we take your comments and concerns into consideration, but may not be able to do or address every idea that is given to us. If your child has ANY symptoms of illness, please keep him/her at home until you can determine the cause of the symptoms. If your child has symptoms and they have been tested for COVID-19, they must remain home until the COVID-19 test results are reported to you. Per the ADPH Back to School Guidance, if your child has symptoms and has a negative covid test result, the child should stay home for 10 days UNLESS a healthcare provider issues an alternate diagnosis. We don't need to know the specific diagnosis but we need to know there is a diagnosis other than COVID-19 to explain the symptoms. When students report to school with symptoms of illness and subsequently test positive for COVID-19, they have exposed countless others, creating multiple close contact individuals and additional COVID positive cases. MySchoolFees Is Open!!

Registration fees opened for payment on MySchoolFees on Sept. 1, 2021. Please go to https://secure4.myschoolfees.com to pay your required fees. Required fees are due by 9/30/21.

After you have paid any previous outstanding balances and the required fees, you will be able to "Continue Shopping" to pay some optional fees and donations! After you click on "Continue Shopping", just click on the green box that says "Registration--Optional Fees" and a page of fees will appear including PTO Donation, other donations, and the Yearbook fee.

After you pay those fees, you can "Continue Shopping" and look at the fees under the green box, including the Spirit Shirt (only XL available now) and Color Run registration/t-shirt. When you click on Color Run, you must add the Color Run Registration to your cart before trying to add extra packets!! Check your cart to make sure that the Color Run is in your cart as well as any extra packets you bought. Last day to register for Color Run Registration and be guaranteed a printed t-shirt is Sept. 10!

We turned on the portal for students last Friday. Students can access the portal through CLEVER. Students can follow these directions to view their grades and attendance. If you have any questions about your student's grades, please contact your teachers directly.

We have not been given permission to open the parent portal yet. Stay tuned.

Students can stay informed with “all things Bumpus” by clicking on the HCS Bookmark Tab on their Chromebooks and scrolling to the Bumpus News. This gives them access to our announcement monitor slides that are running throughout our school with lots of important information and photos! Go Bucs!

To replenish your child’s lunch account, please visit MySchoolBucks.com or send cash or check with your student to pay in the lunchroom or a secure drop box for lunch payments is located in the Front Lobby.
