Active living helps you by controlling your weight and strengthen your heart and lungs.
A teen should get at least 60 minutes of exercise a day.
To be able to do physical activity try getting involved in sports or walk briskly or use your bike around your neighborhood.
Importance of Whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and milk.
Grains. veggies, fruit, and milk are important because these foods are nutrient rich and low in cholesterol, and are naturally low in fats. These foods benefit in because they help prevent heart diseases, cancer, and other health problems. Ways to include these food in your diet are by getting fruit and veggies as snacks, also instead of getting something sugary get a fruit or a vegetable,
and to get enough dairy take a smoothie instead of a soda.
How to limit fats and cholesterol....
If you eat too much fat- especially saturated fats and trans fats-- and too much cholesterol, you raise the risk of developing a heart disease.To limit fat try these tips:
- keep sat. fats at less then 10 percent of your calories
- eat as few foods containing trans fats as possible
- limit cholesterol to less than 300 milligrams per day
- get most of your fat from fish, nuts, and healthy oils.
Be choosy about carbs....
Some sugars are naturally present in nutrient rich fruit and milk.Foods with added sugar such as candy and soft drinks, are high in calories but low in nutrients.You should limit your sugar intake because this can promote to tooth decay, and can cause many problems in the body.
Why reduce sodium and increase potassium?
Sodium helps control body fluids. However too much sodium is linked to high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke. Potassium helps counterattack sodium's effect in the blood pressure.
Avoid alcohol
Teens should avoid alcoholic beverages, including beer and wine. Drinking them can affect or influence your judgement, and that can lead to accidents and injuries.
Why is food safety a important part of the dietary guidelines?
Safe food is healthy food that is free from harmful bacteria and other contaminants. If food not handled correctly this could cause food borne diseases .
