Manuel Noriega
Manuel
Born on Feb. 11th 1934. After growing up he became a Panamanian Politician and soldier. Eventually became a military dictator of Panama from 1983 to 1989 until he was removed from power by a US invasion and taken as a prisoner of war. In the army, Manuel worked his way up the ranks until he became the Chief of Military Intelligence. He had been working with the US Central Intelligence Agency from late 1950s to the 1980s. He was released from imprisonment in the US in 2007. As a leader he did not allow presidential elections for about 16 years and it seemed like the old president was going to win by a landslide. But Manuel halted the count and altered the votes so that he won by a slim margin. Apart from lying to the people and not caring about what they want, a man who was vocal about opposing him and accused him of having ties with drug trafficking was tortured and killed with all requests of investigation denied by Manuel. He was not as brutal as the other leaders, but was guilty of smuggling weapons and drugs into the US and was questioned about many disappearances and deaths.
Propaganda
This is a piece of propaganda from the 1980s around when George Bush ordered an attack on Panama to remove Manuel from office. It is stated that to resist is to win, I believe this was promotions from the Panamanian government to resist against the US. Even though Manuel had ties with the US and the CIA, he was still removed from power by force because of constant back and fourth harassment between US soldiers and Noriega supporting army.
