Middleborough Monday Memo 10.17.16

"Instruction does much, but encouragement does everything."

SLO Support

As a result of our scheduled visit with Samantha on the 25th, please hold off on working on your SLOs. We will also discuss Teacher Development Plans during that week. Additional information is forthcoming, as is a schedule to sign up to meet with Sam.

1st Semester Visit

Jane Lichter, our Executive Director, is coming for her first semester visit on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 12:30-3 pm. During her time here, we will informally visit classrooms. She has asked to meet with our Principal's Advisory Group (identified 4th and 5th graders) as well as any teachers "who are interested to provide feedback on the implementation of the (grading) policy". She is available to meet 1-1 or in small groups. If you are interested in speaking with her, please email Jamie.

Parent Conferences

On Nov. 11, our school will be closed for parent conferences. You are more than welcome to conduct conferences outside of this day, but we encourage you to meet with every family if possible. Utilizing electronic tools such as Sign Up Genius and Google Forms will expedite the scheduling. Once you have your schedule finalized, please forward to Jackie and Rhonda.

Curriculum Support

As a reminder, there is now a process for seeking help from any Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) office. If you have any questions pertaining to curriculum, please contact Jamie and Sharon.

Volunteers Needed

Please contact any parent volunteers that you have to help us with organizing our book rooms. Volunteers will be organizing, labeling, and leveling books. We need as many as we can find to help during regular school hours. Forward their names to Jamie.

Safety Reminders

  • We did a fabulous job during the fire drill. What did you think of using the green cards? Did they make it easier? We knocked one whole minute off of our exit time! Please remember to turn off your lights and close your doors when exiting.
  • Please be sure to have a working walkie-talkie when going outside with your students. If you are going outside with your grade level team, one of you should have it in your possession and turned on.

Currently Reading

I picked up the book, The Energy Bus, as my next professional reading.

From the back cover:

...an international best seller by Jon Gordon, takes readers on an enlightening and inspiring ride that reveals 10 secrets for approaching life and work with the kind of positive, forward thinking that leads to true accomplishment - at work and at home. Jon infuses this engaging story with keen insights as he provides a powerful roadmap to overcome adversity and bring out the best in yourself and your team. When you get on The Energy Bus you’ll enjoy the ride of your life!

I also ordered the coordinating picture book, and I'm excited to share it with your children! While I am reading, you get a break! The link to sign up is forthcoming.
