Big thanks go out to the extended OVCS family for your generous contributions to the National Honor Society and Jr Honor Society food drive. Thank you, too, to the teachers and Honor Society members for coordinating the food collection.

This year donations were coordinated via the "Brown Bag" in each classroom where once again Otselic Valley families demonstrated the value in giving. This year 46 bags of nonperishable goods were collected and distributed to food pantries in both Georgetown and South Otselic.

Thank you!!

The Otselic Valley Central School District has received notice from the New York State Department of Transportation that the speed limit on County Routes 13 and 13A has been reduced to 20 MPH in the vicinity of the school. This change follows a requested review, and was conveyed by Regional Traffic Engineer Tony Signorelli at the Chenango County Department of Public Works.

Signorelli explained that the new 20 MPH speed limit reflects current standards, which recommend that school speed limits be 10 MPH less than the current speed limit. The most recent speed limit in our vicinity was 30 MPH so it was determined that 20 MPH is suitable for the vicinity of our school.

Please always drive carefully near OVCS, and especially around school buses. Our school area is busy with students walking to school, families dropping off and picking up students, school buses, and others attending school functions. Safety first.

An informal Entrepreneur Roundtable for those interested in hearing from business owners about what it takes to launch and maintain a business will be held January 7, 2016 at 7 pm in the Multipurpose Room at the Oxford Academy Primary School.

Both adults and students are invited to hear a case study presented by one of a number of area business owners/entrepreneurs about their work, and learn more about what it takes to run that business. After the short presentation, participants will have an opportunity to askquestions.

This is a chance to get a real-world overview of business details that matter: what's hard, what works, what's changing, and more.

Roundtable presenters available to share their stories include:

  • Sarah Smith with Bill Troxell of Strong Stone Pottery,
  • Heather Bartle of Bartles Pharmacy,
  • Rusty Smith of the Little Boys Shop,
  • Jan Ireland and Rick Warner of Canal Street Hardware,
  • Peter Van Buiten of Oxford Maple Products, and
  • Lori Johnson of Oxford Grooming.
  • Also participating will be Dominick Recckio, social entrepreneur and student educator from Ithaca, NY.

Ms. Angela Perry

Ms. Angela Perry is a counselor joining our school district this year via DCMO BOCES. She went to school at SUNY Cortland for her undergraduate degree and SUNY Albany for graduate school. She enjoys being in the outdoors and hiking with her two dogs. Ms. Perry will be in school meeting with children during the day to help them learn coping skills, social skills, making friends, and conflict resolution. She is excited about joining our team.

Mr. Ryan Manchester

Mr. Ryan Manchester is an AIS math teacher at OV, via DCMO BOCES. He has a bachelor’s degree in Childhood Education from SUNY Oneonta and a master’s degree in Educational Technology from SUNY Buffalo State. Mr. Manchester's interests include sports (his favorite teams are the Yankees, Jets, and Ducks), music, running, being outdoors, video games, and Netflix marathons.
