Walden Pond Field Trip
Mr. Smeltzer’s Latin III classes made a memorable trek out to Walden Pond in Concord, Ma, on Wednesday, April 3, 2019. The students were analyzing and drawing attention to Thoreau’s ideas as they relate to the philosophy of Roman Stoicism. The purpose of the trip was to further explore the ways in which Henry David Thoreau related the idea of carpe diem into his own life at the pond. Many students commented on the natural beauty of the pond and Thoreau’s advice to live life deliberately.

The Monomoy Osprey are Back!
The Monomoy Osprey are back together on their nest on the light pole! Osprey return to the Cape every spring to the same general nesting site. After raising a family throughout the summer, they depart in September or October for their southern winter homes. Male and female Osprey mate for life, but spend the winter months in separate warm climates, hundreds or even thousands of miles away from each other. Miraculously, they usually arrive back on the Cape just a few days apart.
Class of 2022: Harlem Wizard Kick-Off Month
This month is The Harlem Wizard Kick Off Month! The Class of 2022 will be hosting the Harlem Wizards again on October 17th and it's time to start planning their spectacular arrival! We are looking for sponsorships from local businesses. They will be displayed in our program, throughout the gym, and much more. They are $100 to purchase and the money goes directly to helping the class offset the price for the players to come. If you are interested in purchasing one, please make checks out to MRSD and return to Jackie Corrigan at the High School WITH a business card or logo.

Athletics Weekly Summary
Written by: Caroline Howard
Duh dun da da…. duh dun da da! Just kidding, hold your horses folks it’s only Prom Week! Our hallways have been filled with dynamic duos, some overly sun screened tourists, and even Pam and Jim from the office! But, none of the prom days this week could beat the excitement that happened on the fields for the Sharks! So, here we go!
On Monday, Boys Baseball started us off with a game against Sacred Heart! Boy was this one game to see! We had excellent pitching by Junior Joe Cottle, and new Head Coach Porter led his team all the way to victory! Congrats boys!
On Tuesday, the Girls Golf team had a match down in Halifax against Silverlake! The girls faced some serious winds and a tough course, but in the end grasped the win 5 ½ to ½! A huge performance by Eighth Grader Jennie Grogan who showed her skills out on the course that landed her a win in just 5 holes! Way to go girls!
Also on Tuesday we had Girls and Boys Tennis face Cape Cod Academy. You would’ve thought these Sharks were pros! The final score of the matches were 4-1! Way to swim into victory Sharks! We LOVE that!
Boys Lacrosse faced Plymouth North on Tuesday, and had a nail-biting ending! So much so they went to OT! But in the end, our Sharks walked out with a win 9-8! Great job boys! Girls Lacrosse also had a battle against Plymouth North that same day, and boy were these Sharks giving it their all! This was a close game, but in the end the girls fell 12-10. But, a great effort by all! You’ll get them next time girls!
Boys Baseball and Girls Softball both hit off against Sturgis West on Tuesday, and our Sharks displayed their new skills and tricks for the season! Both Monomoy teams walked out with a win over West! Way to go Sharks!
Monomoy Sailing had a big win over DY on Tuesday! The sailors sailed out with a win 5-0 over the Dolphins! Way to go!
As Wednesday came in, it brought around a big match for Monomoy Girls Golf against the Sandwich Blue Knights! The girls tee-ed off at the Ridge Club, and came in with a big win! A great round by Sophomore Jane Howard who showed off her putting and chipping to the Blue Knights, and walked in with a win! The overall score of the match was 4-2. Nice job Sharks!
For Thursday, Girls Golf was back at it again with a match at Eastward Ho! against Cardinal Spellman! The girls had powerful shots despite the chilly conditions. Strong play by Senior Erin Starkey who played the 4th seed and grabbed a win for herself and her team! The final score of the match was 51/2 to ½! Way to go gals!
Also on Thursday was Boys Baseball and Girls Softball games against Rising Tide! For softball, strong plays made by Senior Sam Barr, Junior Julie Slade, and young Freshman Caroline DiGiovanni! As for Baseball, Asa Kline, Jamie Routhier, Logan Routhier, Josh Poitras and Sean Gould had great games and showed off their skills against the Tide! Both teams played hard and launched a few over the fence, making both teams swim to victory! Nice job Sharks!
For Lacrosse, the Boys and Girls teams had a tough day against Martha’s Vineyard. The Sharks played hard against the Vineyarders, but in the end victory was just out of reach. Great effort and plays for the girls were made by Juniors Sarah Babb and Kelsey Olsen! Way to fight Sharks! Onto the next!
Boys and Girls Track ran into victory with their meet against Sacred Heart. The runners gave it their all and sprinted to the finish line, as well as showing their skills in the other events! Nice job Sharks!
It was an off day on the courts for Boys and Girls Tennis against SJP for Thursday. The Sharks served up a great match against them, but in the end just fell out of reach. The matches ended up with scores 3-2! You’ll get them next time Sharks!
Also on Thursday was Sailings meet against SJP. The tides were turning just a little too fast, and the Sharks fell 3-0. Great effort Sharks!
Well folks, it’s that time. It’s the time were the Juniors will get all dolled up for the big night, and bust a move on the dance floor! All of our athletes, as well as all of our Sharks, will be safe and respectful at the dance, and hopefully be ready for games the next week! We’ll see you then! For now, I’m Caroline Howard and Go Sharks!
