A Message from Mr. Vuolo
We have so very much to be proud of and excited for. We have state champions, state qualifiers, state finishers, and more competitions on the horizon. We also have the daily opportunity and gift of getting to learn together. Please join me in celebrating and cheering on our Sabers as they excel in the classroom and beyond!
Please read the update below that explains how we are currently handling masking through the rest of this week and what we plan to do in the event our COVID-19 numbers rise to a point where we have to consider pivoting to at-home learning. We are hopeful we can all come together and do what's needed to continue with in-person learning together.
Go Sabers!
HS COVID-19 Planning & Masking
As we shared last week, Franklin High School exceeded the 1.5% 14-day positivity rate and is currently in a period of required indoor masking for students through this Friday, October 29th. All students are required to wear masks indoors during the school day and during any indoor after-school activities. Athletes and performers may remove their masks during active participation. Student spectators are required to wear masks indoors. During this 10-day calendar period where masks are required, we will continue to monitor the 14-day positivity rate. At the end of the required masking window, if the rate still exceeds 1.5%, we will continue to require masking for another 10 calendar day period.
In addition, this past Friday, we updated our FPS COVID-19 Dashboard on our FPS Communications Hub here. As of Friday, the FHS 14-day positivity rate was at 2%. If we exceed 3%, we will pivot to at-home virtual learning for 14 calendar days. Adding masks for this week was our next step in our mitigation efforts to try and prevent this.
With regards to sports and activities, if there is to be a temporary pivot to at-home learning, we plan to continue to allow in-person sports and activities. We are planning additional mitigation protocols that we will share if a shift to at-home learning happens. Please be aware that students who are sick or quarantined would not be allowed to participate.
We will continue to update families, students, and staff as we move forward. We ask all our families and students to please do what you can to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

Safety Drill
We work everyday to provide a safe learning environment for our students and staff at Franklin High School. This includes conducting regular safety drills and increasing levels of building security. As indicated in our District and School Safety Plans and the Wisconsin State Statutes, the school safety drills include procedure review and practice for:
Fire
Security issues (lockdown/hold/evacuation)
Severe weather/tornado
Franklin Public Schools has instituted the following safety drill requirements:
In the month of September, we conducted both a fire drill and a school safety drill (lockdown). Next, we will conduct an evacuation drill. Each school in the district has a designated location, called the Safe Haven, to which staff would evacuate students in the event of a hazard in their school. Within the first two months of school, every building will practice an evacuation to their Safe Haven or the initial staging for a full evacuation.
Our initial evacuation drill was scheduled for October 7th. Due to inclement weather, this drill has been rescheduled for Wednesday, October 27th, at which time our students and staff will evacuate the building and proceed to the football stadium/field to practice the initial staging for a full evacuation. To account for the time that this drill will take, we will follow a modified bell schedule on this day.
If you have questions or concerns regarding your child(ren)’s participation in these drills, please contact me or any member of our administrative team.
