A Message from the Principal
In the month of March we will be learning about Resilience at Weiss. Here are a couple of resources and ideas to help your child at home to develop resilience:

Video 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KS0PvJC0Fm4
Start with a simple definition: Resilience is the ability to bounce back from setbacks or challenges. Use examples that kids can understand, such as a toy that can withstand being dropped or a plant that can grow back after being cut.
Teach coping skills: Teach kids healthy coping skills like deep breathing, positive self-talk, or taking a break when they feel overwhelmed. Encourage them to practice these skills when they feel stressed or upset.
Celebrate mistakes: Encourage kids to see mistakes as opportunities for growth, rather than failures. Celebrate mistakes and encourage them to try again.
Encourage problem-solving: Teach kids to identify problems and brainstorm solutions. Help them understand that setbacks are a natural part of the problem-solving process.
Model resilience: As a parent, you can model resilience by sharing your own experiences of overcoming challenges. Talk about how you faced a setback and what you did to bounce back.
Encourage a growth mindset: Help kids develop a growth mindset by emphasizing that their abilities can grow and develop with practice and effort.
Recognize and praise progress: Praise kids for their effort and progress, not just their achievements. Help them see that small steps forward are important and can lead to larger successes.
We will be highlighting one student from each class at the end of the month that has gone above and beyond in showing resilience.

Author Visit
Caldecott Medal Winning author, Phil Stead visited our school today thanks to our PTO. He read books, shared the process of writing and illustrating a story, and answered student questions! This was a great experience for all! We appreciate our PTO for making this happen!
STEM- Magnets
Our kdg friends got to play and explore with the power of magnets today in STEM. Some called it magic but in STEM we call it the hidden power of Science. I guess you can say we have a magnetic personality.

Imagination Station Field Trip
Dear Parent or Guardian,
On April 19, 2023 All of the classes at Weiss Elementary will be traveling to the Imagination Station in Toledo, Ohio. Students will be exploring 250 hands-on-exhibits.
Due to limited space, we are not allowed to have chaperones riding the bus. Others interested in attending are more than welcome to drive themselves and follow the bus.
The cost of the trip is 8 dollars per person to cover the cost of admission. If you are a member at Imagination Station, your admission will be covered with your membership number(This must be sent to the school at least 2 weeks ahead of the trip). Students will also be responsible for packing a sack lunch with a drink or getting a bagged lunch from the school cafeteria prior to leaving on the trip. Only families that complete a school lunch from ahead of time will get this lunch (This form will be sent closer to the field trip date). The lunches will be stored in a large bin until time for lunch. Your child may bring money to purchase souvenirs, but it will be their responsibility to keep track of it.
As a STEM school this is a great opportunity for students to explore, build, and see how science, engineering, math, and technology can be used to solve problems in the world.
Thank you,
Weiss Staff
