April Edition

WHIRLWIND 3 MONTHS!

Ever since January 1, it seems as though we have been running a marathon of events at a pace more fitting of a 100 yard dash! To the students, parents and any other family members who have assisted with managing schedules, I say a deep THANK YOU for helping every performance event succeed!


Just to refresh your memory, we worked on Solos/Ensembles in January. 8AA Solo/Ensemble Contest was February 4. We hosted Concordia College on January 6 and performed with them that evening. Our combined band/choir students performed for the Music Educators Convention in Minneapolis on February 11, so many of them were involved in multiple performances that included both Band/Choir! Our normal pep band schedule was extended with a couple extra playoff games in February! We hosted the SCSU Campus Band at our February 29 Trimester 2 band concert! The Bemidji State University Jazz Band stopped by the SRRHS band room for a cooperative performance in early March. We hosted the annual Jazz Extravaganza on March 3 at the middle school. Our 6-12 band program performed at our District Band Concert on March 10. We hosted the 3rd annual Stars of the Storm Talent Show on March 18 and the Central Lakes Conference Music Festival on Friday, April 1!


Kudos to our students for working together to make this schedule of events not only happen, but happen with quality and excellence!

Mattress Fundraiser

An amazing team of parents is pouring their heart into making this event successful! For that we all need to take a moment and read the details and offer to help if you can.


There are three main ways you can assist! 1. Work the event. Our lead parent team has put together a simple schedule that can fit into almost anyone's schedule of availability. The link below this paragraph allows you to look at where we have needs and sign up to help. 2. Share flyers with family and friends. Networking is the single most important way to support this event. Getting the word out allows others to decide if they can support us. If they never get the information, they won't have the opportunity to decide for themselves. 3. Purchase a mattress! Many of us have old mattresses in our homes. Taking time to come look at these high quality mattresses might just offer you an option to save money and support the music department!


Saturday, April 9 is our day to support music at SRRHS! Please do your part to join us in supporting the event by working a shift, sharing information with others and/or shop the mattresses for yourself!

Message from your Music Booster President

Sauk Rapids-Rice Music Boosters is having our 2nd annual Mattress Fundraiser on Saturday April 9th from 10 am to 6 pm at the Sauk Rapids-Rice Middle School! This fundraiser benefits both the music program and individual student accounts! We need your help by spreading the word and inviting friends/family and others to come to the sale. The flyer attached below can be handed out, and your student's name should be on it as the referral person. Each mattress sold that is referred by a student earns money for that student into their Charms account. Attached is the flyer, information on student incentives and the document explaining how Charms works and what the funds in Charms can be used for. any questions on the fundraiser please contact Aimee Asp -jara0872@gmail.com.

From our Booster officers

The Music Boosters is always looking for members to join our group. We will be having elections in April and have many positions open including treasurer, Vice President of Fundraising, Communications and more. Please consider joining our group and sharing your talents and ideas. Our April meeting is Tuesday April 19th at 7 pm in the High School Career Center. Please email Aimee Asp jara0872@gmail.com with any questions!

Marching Storm Interest Meeting

The 2016 Marching Storm instructional staff has met and are excited about the 2016 summer season. We have music ready, design is underway and related equipment is being planned. This performance will offer all students involved an opportunity to be a part of something spectacular. We invite band students, colorguard students, drumline students and friends who can be a part of our honor guard.


The meeting will be on April 12 at the middle school in the band room. We will begin at 7:00 with a presentation informing students and parents about our season. We will also make an important announcement about our summer mystery tour. We are choosing to reveal the destination and want all students and parents to be comfortable with both our destination and our itinerary.


The meeting should last about one hour. There will be an opportunity for questions following the presentation.

Varsity Band 8AA Band Festival

The Varsity Band will be participating in the region 8AA band festival on April 20 in Brainerd. This event is during the school day and we will transport all students to and from the event. Specific details will be shared with students when we receive it from the host school closer to the event.

Trimester 3 Band Concert

Thursday, April 28 at 7:00 pm will be our final band concert of the year. We will honor Seniors, perform outstanding music and celebrate a year's worth of learning! (The concert is on a Thursday to allow the Spring Play production to clear the PAC stage so we can begin to set-up on Tuesday, April 26.)
