Winter Break

Winter break will begin on Thursday, December 23 with school resuming on Monday, January 10, 2022. We hope that you and your family have a wonderful break!

ACCESS Testing

All multilingual students will participate in ACCESS testing during the window of January 12-February 15. The ACCESS assessment results allow us to make decisions about students’ academic language and to facilitate their language development in Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and Math. This assessment is required by law and is a key component of effective programming anchored in WIDA’s Guiding Principles linked here.

Do you need help understanding the Access test? Join a Zoom meeting! Click here to see the flyer and to register. (12/20/21 from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm)

COVID-19

District 15 has shared various OPTIONAL vaccination opportunities on our website. We do so only as a resource for interested families.

Submitting Your Child’s Completed Vaccination Card

Once your child has received both doses of the vaccine, we ask that you please submit a copy of it to your school nurse. Fully vaccinated individuals are not identified as close contacts, and therefore, not excluded from school if there is a positive COVID case (as long as they remain asymptomatic). This documentation is very important during our contact tracing efforts. Families will continue to be notified if a student is identified as a close contact so they are aware to monitor for potential symptoms.

Reminders

The weather is starting to change! Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather each day. If the temperature (including wind chill) is above 0 degrees, we will be outside for at least 20 minutes. We want our students to get outside to run around and play, but it will be important for them to dress in warm coats, hats, gloves, boots and snow pants! Thank you!

Please make sure your children have masks that fit properly. If a mask is too big, it does not cover the nose. When possible, send your child with an additional mask as students have had some wet or torn masks throughout the day. Please wash cloth masks regularly.

  • Go to Notifications, Settings, and choose the schools you wish to receive push notifications from.

January Classroom Refresh

When we return from any break, it is vital that building and classroom expectations are revisited with students. This allows us to proactively approach behavior and refresh expectations with students.

During the first week back from winter break, every school in the district will be engaging in Whole-School Expectations revisits and Station Rotations. We are also asking that teachers utilize the first weeks back from break to revisit classroom expectations.

The Department of Teaching and Learning is providing resources to guide you in planning and preparing lessons to review behavior expectations within your classroom or space.

Focusing on proactively stating behavior expectations prior to any transition or activity is the framework District 15 is moving towards. As creating a safe and conducive learning environment, as well as being responsive to our students’ needs is a priority, teachers should utilize allocated SEL, and additional instructional time as needed, to focus on this work.
