Weekly Update August 12, 2022

Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools kicked off the 2022-23 school year on Wednesday, August 10, 2022. We were so excited for the return of our GJPS students and staff to our schools, classrooms and big yellow buses.

We know there is a lot involved with the first week of school, so please remember to check out our GJPS Back to School Tips for 2022 and keep track of all the important information you need for a great back-to-school season and beyond.

We are aware that COVID-19, like other communicable diseases, presents a risk to the health of our GJPS community. And, like other communicable diseases, it is important to follow health and safety protocols to support our goal of keeping students in school five days a week without interruption for the entire 2022-23 school year.

Start of a new school year; time for connection and joy!

It is August! The signal for back-to-school in Central Ohio. I love the start of school because I once again have the opportunity to engage with our students and staff. I enjoy hearing about all the fun students had with their friends and family and any memorable travels they may have had. This year, August brings a new opportunity for my family and me. I am ecstatic to begin my tenure as the new superintendent of Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools!

For me, the start of school also brings an opportunity to feel connected. Being a team and having close relationships has always been one of the best parts of the education profession! Undoubtedly, the past several years have brought challenges I never expected to experience when I first started out as a teacher over twenty years ago.

In November 2020, voters in the Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools district approved a bond and operating levy to fund Phase Two of the GJPS Master Facilities Plan.

Phase Two of the Master Facilities Plan Includes:

• Additions and renovations to High Point and Blacklick Elementary
• New Lincoln High School on current site

BinaxNOW At-Home COVID-19 Rapid Test Kits are currently available for students and staff currently enrolled in GJPS schools who are EXHIBITING SYMPTOMS of COVID-19.

REQUEST FORM MUST BE COMPLETED IN ADVANCE
While supplies last, you may request kits for:

• The number of students you have enrolled in Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools in your household who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.

• The number of GJPS staff in your household who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.

A confirmation email will not be sent.

PLEASE WEAR A MASK WHEN PICKING UP A RAPID TEST AT THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING

After completing a Rapid Test Kit Request Form, kits are available for pick up at:

Please ring the bell inside the front door for service.
