Every child. Every day. Whatever it takes!
April 5, 2020
The Moreau Heights family is committed to providing a positive and safe learning environment to support responsible and productive citizens.
Our Vision
Moreau Heights is a school where students are eager to learn and where staff are excited to teach. Students are successful at Moreau Heights in growing and meeting personal and academic goals. Teachers are innovative and a collaborative team. We are a family of learners and a community of great achievers!
Planning Student Learning
- Less is more!!
- How can you focus efforts for the child with 1-2 tasks or activities for each topic (reading, writing, and math) each WEEK?
We want to challenge you to look at ways you can have students work with concepts WITHOUT a traditional worksheet - but maybe just a recording sheet.
- With our students who are connected via google classroom, how can we pose problems or questions to them and have them respond to each other. (This would incorporate the content AND writing!)
- How can you challenge students to engage with siblings and family, use everyday materials in the home, etc with their content?
- Make sure you refer to some great suggestions from Stacey Gregory-Angell by referring to her SMORE here.
Lens on Literacy
Packet Prep
A few items to note about packets/digital learning:
- We CANNOT send paper clips, binder clips, pencils, or other bulky items in the envelopes.
- Run packet pages 2-sided to help with reducing the sheets per packet.
- No new learning can be sent to students at any time through packets or digital learning.
- Review the suggestions sent by Kelly or included by us in this newsletter when creating the packets.
- Check in with Meghan and Heather S. if they see a student in your class to coordinate what is sent home for work and books.
- Keep in mind that our students with special education resource support may be overwhelmed with the level of the work in the classroom. Communicate with Joe and Jessica to determine if the student really needs grade level tasks for certain content areas.
- Consider what items might be able to be done digitally. Jill shared some google classroom information and Dawn will be putting together a SMORE with some great classroom tips and tricks. She's also happy to meet with anyone via Google Meet and walk you through anything you'd like to try. She's used it for years and is Google certified.
- What if they don't have internet? Please remind parents that they can drive up and park in the upper lot by school and their child's Chromebook will automatically pick up the WIFI that has been extended to the parking lot. This isn't the best solution, but it at least can get them some time for iReady, etc.
Need a pick-me-up? - Lego will make you smile!
Student Check-in Phone Calls
- This can be done through a phone call with each family across the week.
- This can be done through a class chat/meeting via google meet. (This will REALLY save time - just take note of who is not attending and reach out to those students via phone)
We want to stay connect with our kids to find out:
- how are they feeling? (emotionally and physically)
- what is happening for them?
- are they receiving the work?
- do they need help with anything?
Food
Please remind them that they can pick up food at ANY of the locations. It does NOT have to be the school they attend.
Work Schedule
The following items would be included in your weekly schedule:
Connect with students (google meet or phone calls)
Check iReady
Checking and responding to email
If you still need to work on template for coming weeks, organize this
Update your classroom website
Be thinking about how you can structure your days/week to address these things. Be ready with questions when we zoom.
IEP and 504 Meetings
These meetings will take place via Google Meet or Zoom and you will receive a link.
How do we do this online learning stuff?
We have a few links below to help with some shifts in our mindset about this time. It obviously has presented us AND families with new challenges.
Maintaining a CLEAN building
When we are in the building working, please . .
1. Remember to try to maintain distance (6 ft) so we are safe with our own germs.
2. Have hand sanitizer "handy" so you can use it when touching different surfaces.
3. We will have clorox wipes at the copiers to use when you are finished with printing/copies.
- If you enter a room that has tape over the door with a date, just turn the tape vertically along the door frame as a sign that the room has been used and will need to be disinfected again.
Clean room
If you enter a room . . .
