A Message from Ms. Cimino
Happy 2019! We started off the year with many great events, including our Escape Room. We had over 200 students and family members take part in this fun challenge. Please remember that our annual Gift Auction will be held on April 13, and tickets are selling fast. Please send in your forms as soon as possible as we will sell out!
Now that the cold is here, please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately. We ask that coats and warm clothing are worn each day, students may go outside for recess or gym if the weather permits.
Please remember that if school needs to close for inclement weather, notifications will immediately go out via phone, text and/or email. Please make sure that your contact information is up to date in the Parent Portal. If your phone number changes, please update the Parent Portal immediately.
Note that closings or delays will also be posted on our district Facebook page, and on our website at www.btboe.org.
Beyond Band Aids with Mrs. Olsen- Mid Year Check Up!
Vision Screening
All Preschool, Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grades had vision screens. Out of approximately 300 students, 31 possible vision problems were identified. IF YOUR CHILD RECEIVED A VISION SCREENING REFERRAL, PLEASE FOLLOW UP WITH A HEALTH CARE PROVIDER FOR A COMPLETE EYE EXAMINATION. If you are unable to find an appropriate physician, please call the nurse at ext. 5005!
Children often do not realize that they are not seeing as they should and may not complain or show signs of vision problems. If not detected and treated early, vision problems in children can lead to:
- Loss of vision
- Learning difficulties
- Delayed sensory, motor, cognitive or social-emotional development.
HOW CAN A VISION SCREENING HELP MY CHILD?
- Identifies children in need of a professional eye examination
- May help detect disorders in an early, treatable stage
- Provides parents, caregivers and the public with valuable information about eye care
- May result in a referral to an eye care professional or primary care provider
Hearing Screening
All students enrolled in PK-4th grade receive yearly hearing screening. To date, Preschool, 1st, 2nd and 4th grades have had hearing screenings. A student must fail a hearing screening twice before they are referred for further evaluation. Please follow up with your health care provider if you are notified that your child has failed a hearing screen.
In the United States, one to three children per 1,000 are born with hearing loss each year (CDC, 2010). Hearing deficits in children can interfere with normal speech and language development, communication, and the ability to learn. It is important to detect even a mild hearing loss in order to treat the problem! For more information about hearing loss and hearing loss prevention go to www.noisyplanet.nidcd.nih.gov.
Mobile Dentist
All district students have the opportunity to receive a dental exam, cleaning and fluoride rinse from Tender Smiles Mobile Dentist. Depending on your child's insurance, your child can get x-rays and sealants applied during the school visit as well. If you have no dental insurance, please contact the nurse about the mobile dentist grant program. Our next scheduled visit is April 3rd. Look for registration forms to come home soon!
Blood Pressure, Height and Weight
All students are screened yearly for appropriate growth and development. Blood pressures are monitored yearly on all students.
Barnes and Noble Book Fair
If you want to shop online between the dates of 2/8 -2/13 you may enter this code as your Book Fair ID Number: 12490967. This will allow Potter to get credit for the online purchases.
In the store, shoppers just have to tell the cashier that they are from H&M Potter. The in-store promotion is only good for 2/8 at the Brick location. Shoppers can visit the store at any time that day to support our Book Fair.
Anyone can say they are supporting Potter school on that day for us to get credit. Please let any grandparents, aunts, uncles, or family know that they can help!
